December 24, 2021 - Mars in Sagittarius Trine Chiron in Aries

Mars in Sagittarius Trine Chiron in Aries

Jesus saith, "Rise, take up thy bed, and walk". John 5:8

Mars, ruler of Aries, trine Chiron, relates to the global actions attempting to resolve the health crisis Humanity is going through. A great part of the healing process comes from the personal and individual initiative of becoming healthy from the inside out. Our actions may determine the protection we have from the hidden enemies of our body. Jesus message to that man in Bethesda was 'do your part' first, ("rise, take thy bed, walk") then, you will heal.

Dane Rudhyar says about the Sabian Symbol for the 9th degree (8º27') "A mother leads her small child step by step up a steep stairway," meaning "The need in any social situation to assist the less evolved in their management of the problems which society requires its members to solve. Climbing stairs is a skill made necessary by the building of several-storied houses — a product of civilization. What is implied here is social concern for the less evolved of society's members." (Astrology Mandala)

New types of treatment and new types of vaccines are being developed attempting to help in the prevention and healing of the coronavirus. Also, the governments of developed countries have come to realize their inherent responsibility to help the less developed ones to achieve preventive goals because this could contribute to the wellbeing of all. The theoric principle is praiseworthy.

Second Venus Pluto Conjunction

However, the Venus conjunct Pluto for the second time at the point of the Jupiter Pluto conjunction of last year in April and so close to the Saturn Pluto conjunction of January 2020, rings the bell of an overreaching institutional and corporate influence for the sake of power and control, if not for economic domination or subjugation. In this, the biggest powers of the world compete against each other in seducing the less advantaged nations.

Rapture of Proserpina" by Luca Giordano (1684-1686)

Venus has already joined Pluto once while transiting direct, on December 11, 2021. They both did so at the exact midpoint of Mercury and Jupiter, rulers of the North and South Nodes of the Moon. That indicated the pervasive exaggeration of data, and the media obsessive hammering of a single subject with the purpose of increasing power and control as well as profit. The global reach of an uniform message expands the intense focus on one and only goal. The insistence on a certain rhetoric based on panic and fear contributes to the development of a certain belief or a search for meaning. Then, having Venus and Pluto at the midpoint between the Nodal rulers also represents the power of using data to create a belief system.

Venus will join Pluto once more after exiting her shadow, on March 2-3, 2022, this time together with Mars at 27º during the Pluto return of US chart. One may think of the Rapture of Persephone myth. It will be a significant time to observe the country's values being exposed 'naked', and the Treasury Department announce crucial news. Stay tuned, there is more to come.

Sat Nam.

Chiron in Aries and the Pandemic

Chiron in Aries’ Message Through the Pandemic

This article was originally published in the December 2020 Journal
of the International Society of Astrological Research, ISAR.

Two years into Aries, Chiron has embedded his message in our lives by percolating it through every pore of our human existence. In 2018, with Chiron’s first ingress in Aries, little did we know how our very human identity and existence will experience its inherent vulnerability and face the risks of survival.

For those new to this cosmic body, Chiron may be a ‘minor planet’ with no minor significance nonetheless. Greek Mythology tells us that Chiron was the abandoned and rejected half-human half-horse immortal son of Philyra and Chronos. However, that was not his only wound. Later in life, Heracles, his own student accidentally injures him on a leg with a poisoned arrow. Immortality has its own rules, and because of the Medusa’s poison, he couldn’t heal. From that moment on, Chiron spends the rest of his life studying and searching for his healing, thus becoming a healer himself and a Healing Master to many, including the ancient Greek God of Medicine, Asclepius. Yet, the only effective healing for him was to sacrifice his immortality for someone whose suffering was an even greater torment, Prometheus. Switching places with Prometheus, Chiron dies, and is finally liberated from his suffering.1

Pompeo Batoni – Achilles and his Teacher, the Centaur Chiron (1746)

Chiron in Aries has activated the wounded human sense of self, our vulnerability and limitations as incarnated (Aries) spiritual beings (Pisces). We are feeling the pain of this material existence in our own flesh, which arouses the need to fight to survive. Some, instead, deny the cruel reality of our precarious physicality by freezing in place unwilling to accept the threat, strengthening their will power and claims of independence, or eluding it by fleeing into escapist behaviors (favored by Neptune in Pisces). No matter how one reacts, the reality is that we realize our fallibility. We are confronted with the concept of not being enough, strong enough, independent enough, healthy enough, perfect enough. Our very existence is being threatened. Deep down, accepted or not, our Chironic human limitations, dysmorphic traits, and shortcomings are more evident than ever.

Chiron, in Aries as well as in Pisces, travels through the Aphelion, the coldest part of his orbit around the Sun. As Chiron’s orbit links together Saturn and Uranus’ orbits acting as a bridge, the aphelion is the place where we are in closer contact with our ‘celestial’ of ethereal condition. Through the perceptions we receive of a vaster intangible reality, we are shown the deepest wound of all, the wound of having left behind our spiritual condition (Uranus, Lord of the Sky) to be born in the material plane (Saturn, Lord of Time and Space). We sense the pain of having been abandoned alone in this inhospitable place called Earth. In Aries, the arising questions are ‘who am I?’, ‘what to do with this fallible body?’ How will I survive? Other Aries concerns relate to how, when and where initiate action to ensure individual survival, to perpetuate the species through sexuality, and to use physical energy for protection.

Chiron Enters the Scene

Reading the Chiron ingress in Aries chart, we now get a better sense of the themes that he was putting on the table in April 2018.

2

Chiron entering Aries with Mercury is in itself a statement, he brings a message. The Sun conjunct Uranus at the critical degrees in Aries, talks about the elevation and liberation of the core essence of the human self. The Sun sheds its creative light on the shaking influence of Uranus, which is also associated with human traumatic events because of its sudden and unexpected striking shocks from unimaginable heavenly forces. Was a pandemic in someone’s mind in early 2018? The Sun then was clearly showing that the strike was coming. Yet, Uranus strikes to liberate us. In Aries, this represents a fracture from who we thought we were. Have we thought that we were the most powerful species on Earth, that we had been able to dominate and submit even Nature to our own designs? Did we have the idea that we were invincible to the extreme of toying with atomic aggressive power without thinking that it could annihilate us? Here comes the tiniest possible entity, a virus, to show us otherwise, and maybe put us in our place.

Moreover, the Sun Uranus combination of energy feeds the direction we are to take, indicated by the North Node in Leo ruled by the Sun, if we are to find joy in life, and able to create from the very core of our essential self. The Sun force in Aries nurtures the quest for expression and show to the world the spiritual essence (Uranus) we were given to manifest during these times. Injected into the North Node, this energy makes for prolific innovation in the preservation of life, most probably through alternative scientific findings (Chiron).

Mars, the ruler of Aries, in Capricorn sandwiched between Saturn and Pluto indicates the need for discipline, maturity, integrity of actions at the same time that demands a profound psychological exploration and transformation of the structures of reality built so far throughout history. This societal and institutional reality is due for revision since it dates from the last Saturn Pluto conjunction in Capricorn in 1518.

Mars is also conjunct Black Moon Lilith, the shadow of control. According to Laura Walker, Lilith in Capricorn fears neglect, and not being acknowledged. She explains that

“Lilith in Capricorn manifests as a need to control the course of events. When this shadow dominates, we have a tendency to be demanding. We can go to extreme efforts to gain attention. We have definite ideas about the way things should be and others often succumb to the force of our will. Frequently we refuse to give up until someone – anyone - acknowledges what we have to offer or agrees with what we think is best.”3

In addition, Chariklo, Chiron’s wife, by Pluto is the “magical healing presence” that has accompanied the whole process with her “invisible [yin] power of responsiveness and receptivity to bear with the situation, to allow, and attune with the great mystery that needs to be born”. Chariklo shows us her example of “humility, modesty and the feeling of deferring to the greater source and power of life”4. In this way, we are presented with the challenge and simultaneously given the tools to work with it.

Chiron is also opposing MakeMake, a recently discovered TNP that is barely entering our consciousness. Its orbit lasts 309 years around the Sun and symbolically, its name refers to the Creator God of the Rapa Nui culture of the Easter Island. Although not proven, it is thought that the Rapa Nui people became extinct due to their over exploitation of Nature, and consequent destruction of their environment. The mythology associated with MakeMake tells about a hero, the Birdman, who engages in a spiritual quest. In order to prove worthy of the feat, the first challenge the candidate faces is a “dangerous journey to fetch the first bird egg of the season and bring it back with him”. Next, “the selected Birdman would meditate” in isolation for a year and upon coming back to his community, share “the visions he [had] encountered”5. Then the MakeMake archetype in Libra opposing Chiron in Aries seems to correlate with the need to plunge into the depth of self-exploration to bring out a balance using the Venusian, more harmonious, peaceful, receptive, and gracious conciliatory energy as a counteract to our aggressive psychological tendency (Aries) that always end up wounding us even more.

When Chiron re-enters Pisces on September 25, 2018 for a five-month search of something that was left behind, we were thrown into deeper emotional waters for a more profound soul search. Both Pisces rulers were in Water Signs. Neptune in Pisces increasing the intensity of the Sign’s archetype in both sides of the spectrum, with heightened spirituality, escapist behaviors, and mystic bewilderment. Jupiter in Scorpio was exploring and bringing to the surface wounds and issues related to sexuality, shared resources and wealth. Like the image on a looking glass, the oceanic Piscean collective was reflecting to us the most hidden inadequate pieces of our psyche and spiritual experience.

Back in Aries, by February 18, 2019, Chiron rubs elbows with Eris and Uranus, the rowdiest of the Zodiac, sowing the seed of rebellion that takes root in the pain of diverse identities not being recognized, accepted and embraced. Mars in Taurus explores the values that are up for inquisitive reconsideration. In addition, Taurus looks at the animal half of Chiron, the more primal instinctive side of our existence, and discovers the wounded body. We can now clearly realize why. The pandemic represents exactly a threat to the physical condition of our life. It’s the poisoned arrow stabbed in our body, as it were, motivating us to seek all kinds of healing possibilities, till the end of our days, like Chiron did. Emulating Chiron, we would probably study, discover and develop many other scientific branches that, in the end, will reveal themselves to be of service to everyone. In the same way Chiron studied natural healing substances, Taurus suggest our increased reliance on natural resources, plants, and other products from the earth that will prove to be therapeutic.

Mars makes two important aspects, a sextile to the Sun in Aquarius and the opposition to Pallas Athena in Libra (both out of Sign aspects). The Sun God was Chiron protector, adoptive father and mentor. This Sun Mars connection is an opportunity to reclaim the self-worth, and use a well oriented combative spirit to defend one’s personal, cultural, ethnic, religious, innate or chosen identity. This influence is an incentive for an honorable competition or defense of one’s reputation in order to solidify one’s sense of identity. Multiple examples around the world show how people from all walks of life, from a wide range of identities, be it nationality, religious, gender, cultural, are reclaiming their value. Groups with distinct traits initiate activism in their own behalf, take opportunities for leadership in positive support of who they are, each claiming their right to be. The BLM and the LGBTQ movements among many others, are examples of the wounded healing power of Chiron, operating as an increase in identity self-confidence, and claim to be recognized as whole and not wounded.

Pallas in Libra opposing Mars reminds us of the need to reconcile opposites. In times of an insurmountable gap between the disenfranchised and the privileged, displaced or rejected national, religious or political identities, this energy reminds us all the inadequacies of Chiron. He can give us the perception of an over inflated or deflated self, of a victim or of a victimizer, which are also parts of his archetype. The presence of Pallas, the wise strategic woman warrior, mirroring Mars, is a hopeful reflection of a better approach used in Mars battles. As a healer, Pallas Athene works here with techniques of energy balancing, such as polarity therapy […](yin-yang) and conflict management”. Pallas “is skilled in creating harmonious designs […] defender of justice, [she] seeks to implement the arts of peace, mediation, diplomacy and legal action. [She] harmonizes and integrates polarities”. Pallas also puts in evidence our contemporary sexual traumas, also a part of Chiron in Aries archetype. It’s obvious that the pandemic raises the problematic of “sexual-creative expression or inability to actualize creative ideas”. The suggested or imposed isolation and physical distancing encumber the possibility of face to face relationship negotiation (Libra), let alone sexual contacts.

“The sexual frustration can lead to feelings of sexual inadequacy and compensatory militant behavior. There may be confusion over one’s masculine sexual identity with either too little or too much masculine expression.”6

This not only refers to masculine energy as in men, but the yang or projective energy in both sexes as well. Intimacy being the clearest expression of identity affirmation because of the necessary trust and acceptance, is also damaged by the pandemic. The social restrictions and physical distancing increase the sense of isolation and anxiety. The proximity apprehension due to the fact that it promotes the spread of the virus, has people plunge deeper into escapist behavior and addictions such as pornography to compensate for the missing intimacy. Thus, all of which hinders the possibility to reconcile extremes (Aries/Libra).

From these two ingress charts, the conclusion is obvious. This time around, Chiron in Aries is associated with the capacity of humans to survive in face of an unexpected health threat. In addition, there is a higher degree of vulnerability to environmental pollution of any kind affecting and threatening all forms of life. Moreover, Chiron in Aries is a symbol of the ‘boomerang’ effect of the fight to survive, as is seen in wounded warriors, and other victims of war, protests and resistance, that abound in every corner of the planet. In other instances, the wound also shows in the lack of human independence or autonomy; enslaved people, asylum seekers crowded together in inhumane camps, imprisoned refugees, or homeless citizens having to live in the streets. Since Aries relates to the head, there is a greater incidence of mental health as well with the corollary of increase suicide numbers. The healing process associated with Chiron in Aries correlates with the personal and collective introspection in isolation (MakeMake in Libra), that hopefully results in the adjustment of a higher self-consciousness, behavior changes oriented to the development of a collective identity consciousness.

 Chiron Astrological Red Flags

There is no doubt that Chiron has definitely played a central role in the outbreak of this virus and consequent Pandemic. The straightforward evidence of the cycle Mars Chiron, showed from the beginning, several red flags.
  • Mars Chiron conjunction December 28, 2018 - Measles outbreak brought into USA from abroad, Israel and Ukraine (CDC source)
  • Mars first quarter square to Chiron May 23, 2019 - Measles outbreak has higher numbers of cases in decades. E-coli contaminated meat recalled in USA.
  • Mars opposite Chiron October 8, 2019 - Exact date of the Event 201, which concludes that the world is not ready for a pandemic.7
  • Jupiter in Capricorn waning square to Chiron December 8, 2019 - Approximate date of a whistleblower Doctor in China warning about a new rare virus.
  • Mars in Capricorn waning square to Chiron February 21, 2020 - CDC changes the way of counting covid19 cases. 34 people test positive in USA. The virus enters the USA brought by people from abroad (Diamond Princess Cruise Ship and other repatriations).
  • Mars square the Nodal Axis in Cancer Capricorn March 13, 2020 - Just 2 days before, March 11, the Pandemic is officially recognized (CDC source).

    Reflections on the Historical Cycle

Going back in history, there are significant correlations of our present Chiron cycle with the one at the end of the 13th Century. The following details are the reasons why I think that the Chiron in Aries period of 1288-1296 has relevant themes to our present Chiron in Aries period of 2018-2026, especially at the global level. First, the wounding and healing process is wide and global in both. Second, both periods belong within and immediately after the triple Jupiter Saturn Pluto conjunction in Capricorn. The only previous occurrence of Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto joining forces in Capricorn was December 20, 1284, and, like in 2020, only Saturn and Pluto were partile. It also coincided with the Renaissance, the last 200-year period of Jupiter and Saturn exact conjunctions in Air Signs. As currently, the exact Jupiter Saturn conjunction was then also in Aquarius on January 1st , 1286. Since Chiron was then in Pisces, it took two more years for him to enter Aries, but the implications are certainly similar.

Chiron entered Aries on May 5, 1288.

All these coincidental similarities, and considering the 735-year cycle of the three planets, Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto in Capricorn, 2020 is definitely another turning point of the Ages as it was back then. Another sign that we are currently revising this history is the fact that the meeting of those three planets has taken place over Saturn’s and Pluto’s planetary south nodes located respectively at the 19 and 20 degrees of Capricorn. In 1288, Chiron ingress into Aries is with Venus, and Mars with Neptune, definitely pointing to the refinement of human identity through artistic and harmonic expressions and actions. This chart is amazingly describing the Renaissance. Look at the North Node at the very end of Libra! Saturn in Pisces and the sensual stability provided by the Sun, Jupiter and Mercury in Taurus are beacons of a high level of creative expression.

Chiron’s healing operates through the wound. It is said that human beings elevate their spirituality when they are under the threatening pressure of severe pain at the edge of death. Examples of cancer patients abound, telling their spiritual awakening stories when they recover. They are ‘reborn’ (Pluto) to a new meaning of their existence (Chiron in Aries). Many studied and learned so much about their illness that, like Chiron did, they were ready and willing to share their experience with others. Some even became healers themselves in one capacity or another.
“To will the good, one must first know it, and so there could be no true eloquence without wisdom.”8
Similarly, the collective suffering that Covid19 has brought engenders a profound longing for renewal. The dark times of the Crusades (1096-1271) had turned European geopolitics upside down and at odds with the power of the Church. The Nobility had traveled abroad, seen other realities, accessed the forgotten ancient knowledge in the libraries that treasured it in the East. Their eyes had been opened, and many of them returned bringing back new perspectives, new knowledge of medicine, languages, philosophy and even copies of the classical books.

“There’s no question that the years of bloody conflict brought by the Crusades had an impact on Middle East and Western European nations for many years, and still influence political and cultural views and opinions held today.”9

"Europe was on the verge of one of the most productive and creative periods in its entire history. Following this long period of darkness [Middle Ages] there came this tremendous explosion of cultural achievements."10

In Europe, although there were still pervasive inequalities and discrimination and persecution against Jews and Muslims, a new legal system was created with innovative jurisprudence and judicial Courts. A new social contract was adopted in England, the Magna Carta, recognizing the rights of what would have been the equivalent of today’s ‘middle class’. In the degree the culture of the time was able to incorporate, there was a movement toward increased equanimity. There was a new burst of creativity not seen since the time of the Roman Empire. Kingdoms were consolidated and city-states showed signs of a certain degree of democracy.

The Renaissance was a time of search for higher knowledge, studying and rediscovering ancient classical knowledge from Arabic, Greek and Roman civilizations. Universities were created. Literacy was progressively spread, and with the later invention of the press, the access to knowledge was unstoppable. During the Renaissance, literature soared and the records of history were started. Affluent lay people were able to attend universities and be educated in classical languages, mathematics, arts, philosophy, and other disciplines.

The reason why Humanity is spiritually revisiting this historical period is probably due to the fact that Neptune’s planetary south node, symbolic of our spiritual and collective unconscious past karma, is currently in Aquarius sitting over the Jupiter Saturn conjunction of January 1st, 1286. Furthermore, Neptune correlates also with invisible enemies (i.e. germs), healing, medicine, hospitals, seclusion, and vulnerability due to poor boundaries. What developments took place in those regards at the end of the 13th Century?
Chiron teaching magic - Giovanni Benedetto, 1609-1664.

Chiron in Aries at the end of the 13th Century saw the renewal of medicine in Europe with Doctors studying and translating ancient Arabic works.11 However, the Catholic Church was closely involved regulating what was acceptable as ‘science’ and who was approved as ‘doctors’. Historical records show that Jewish Doctors and other ‘distinguished scholars’ earned prominence and acceptance in the eyes of the Pope.12 Medical practice was holistic and founded on Astrology, as evidenced by the use of the ‘Rx’ signature (for Radix), still alive today, meaning “I’ve seen the horoscope” (Birth Chart)13 . Remedies included the use of herbs, potions, ablutions, dressings, and often spiritual remedies, music and fine arts. Records attest of John of Gaddesden curing Edward I of England’s son from smallpox using scarlet drapery in the room and bodily dressings.14 “Religious foundations established hospitals and infirmaries attached to abbeys, monasteries, priories, and convents. Doctors and nurses in these institutions were members of religious orders and combined spiritual with physical healing.”15 However, private parties took the initiative to open hospitals as well. Mathieu Buridan and his wife established a hospital in Saint-Quentin, France, for poor women where they could give birth and receive care.16

Chiron, Our Present Healing Journey

While Uranus transited Aries (2011-2018), human identity was reshaped through the free access to a wide range of information on Internet. This proved to have advantages and created problems. Even though people has had the opportunity to learn so much, the individual was not always capable of digesting the huge amount of knowledge and use it for his or her own benefit. Come Chiron in the Sign that rules the head, now, Humanity discovers that knowledge without the wisdom of how to use it, can and has hurt its evolution. With this accumulation of information, human identity has changed faster than the person can understand. Chiron in Aries reveals new inadequacies, and mental vulnerabilities. The lack of discernment, critical thinking, good judgment, with excess of disorganized or manipulated information is hurting the mind to the point of insanity.

The Pandemic, a microscopic ‘bug’ that doesn’t even have life of its own, and the seclusive measures of protection has forced us to make a better acquaintance with the state of our mind and with the status of our most essential condition. Thanks to the potentiated Capricorn energy, every element of our reality is up for deconstruction and reconstruction. Like the patient diagnosed with a serious illness, the whole collective is engaged in the search for survival (Aries).

In a parallel to the 13th Century, and like Chiron, we’re seeking new knowledge in every branch of science. Like him, we will probably find no cure for the virus. And most likely there are other invisible challenges threatening our survival. Environmental natural disasters, man-made pollution, atomic catastrophes, the possibility of war are all hovering over our heads in the next few decades. Like in the darkest of the Middle Ages, it is possible that we touch rock bottom before rising up. Yet, through the enlightenment of this neo-renaissance, most definitely, we will be eager to come out of this dark state of ignorance, that has made us so vulnerable and placed us at the edge of extinction.

Chiron makes us aware of our orphanhood, and plunged the collective into the realization that life matters. No matter its shape, color or size, if it is vegetable, animal or human, it is the essence of existence that is at risk. Chiron in Aries represents both, fallibility and resiliency of the existence. Like Chiron, may we look up to the generosity, optimism, life sustaining energy, and enlightenment of the Sun’s symbolism, Apollo, Chiron’s adoptive father and mentor, to guide us, rescue us, and support human existence.

Full Moon in Taurus - October 31, 2020

When the Wound Becomes the Healing

And Venus did it again!
Love is pouring over Humanity once more. Venus was the ruler of the New Moon in Libra, and she is the ruler of this Full Moon as well. This makes love the star of the month, if you understand tough love, of course.

Venus and Anchises (1889 or 1890) by William Blake Richmond

The Moon is at 8º of Taurus and the Sun at 8º Scorpio. Full Moons put us in front of a mirror. There could be another person, an event, situation, or the general circumstances, but whatever the case, it reflects an aspect of ourselves. Keeping that in mind, by watching ourselves in the looking glass, we are made aware of something important by the reflected Sunlight on the Moon face.

Chart by TimePassages, Astrograph

This particular Full Moon taps its power in the December 25th, 2019 Solar Eclipse, in a waxing trine. I invite you to visit my blog post, which, unsuspectingly, I then titled “Turn the last page of your old life”. That eclipse was at 4º of Capricorn, conjunct Jupiter, square to Chiron and trine Uranus! Little did we know at that time, the significance and scope of what that energy would bring to the world. As it did bring profound changes to the structures of our reality (Capricorn), spread widely throughout the world (Jupiter), wounding the very core of our human identity and capacity for survival (Chiron in Aries), with a surprising strike (Uranus). Venus was in Aquarius foreshadowing the social separation and the alternative virtual connection that we are now experiencing.

The current Full Moon conjunct Uranus makes a loud call. Uranus’ lightning bolt shines a striking light and surprise us with a realization. That Eureka moment most likely will show us a reality that, either we didn’t know, or we ignored. Because the 8th degree of Taurus belongs to the Taurus decanate and Virgo Dwadashamsha (subdivisions of the Sign)0, this revelation is certainly related to the healing and purification of the Earth body, of our body, but also the radical transformation of our values. The Virgo sub ‘flavor’ of it, adds a factor of discernment, for the ability to separate what is useful from what should be discarded (the wheat from the chaff).

Uranus, Greek God of the Heavens

Uranus in Taurus correlates to breaks in the ecological food chain, breaks in the food distribution system, disruptions and transformations in the economic system, and the availability of resources, unexpected or abnormal financial developments. Uranus in Taurus is an earth shaker, then natural catastrophes are not discarded, even earthquakes. However, with Uranus, no one can predict, because no matter what you expect, something entirely different may happen. The main symbolisms to remember are that Uranus is electricity and sudden shocks, and Taurus is the material aspects of life.

The Moon is applying to a quintile (71º angle) with out-of-bounds Ceres. Ceres at the critical 29th degree of Aquarius opposes Haumea and sextiles Black Moon Lilith in Taurus. Ceres in Aquarius represents the yin (feminine) attributes of nurturance in the community context. Being out-of-bounds, makes Ceres manifestation extreme. People are creating innovative ways to assist the victims of natural or man made catastrophes. We will probably see a surge in the nurturing urgency for communities in dire need for survival, like people coming in aid to extended family members, the creation of childcare coops, mothers’ support groups, people asking and receiving aid from friends, and humanitarian charity groups.1
Painting of Ceres, Goddess of Nature, by Evelyn de Morgan, 1906.

All that not without a pressing reason. On the one hand this Full Moon is also the culmination of the cycle started with the New Moon in Taurus in April this year. I invite you to recall what was that cycle about by watching my video titled "Are We Eating Tomorrow". On the other, Ceres opposite Vesta makes us aware of the needs of others, and invites us to learn to balance our needs with the moral responsibility we have towards nurturing others.2

In addition, Ceres trines Haumea, the TNP associated with the regeneration and fertility of Nature and the Earth. Mercury by Haumea’s side is sending her critical message, stating that Nature is in Labor and she needs support and care, safety, peace and gentleness so she is able to keep giving freely of her ‘fruit’. Another messenger is Black Moon Lilith in Taurus, asking ‘do we have enough to feel safe? Is there enough food to survive? She unveils the shadows of security in our fear of scarcity.3 There is urgency on this call, we should listen, understand and care.

Haumea, Goddess of Fecundity

The Sun, beaming his Kingly light from the sign of the shadows and the underworld, reigns over the Moon and Uranus. We are certain to be shown significant ‘decayed’ material extra clearly. The Sun in the 8th degree of Scorpio is in the Pisces Dwadashamsha, and the Scorpio decanate. These added sub influences to the original meaning, talk about a global or widespread regeneration of sorts. Scorpio is the sign of death and rebirth, so the Sun points to something dying to be reborn, something destroyed to be rebuilt, or decomposed to give birth to something new. Considering that both, the traditional and modern Scorpio rulers, Mars and Pluto are still square, reveals an enormous destructive tension between the signs of Aries and Capricorn, radiating indirectly to Libra and Cancer. With the accumulation of planets in those signs, there is an increase of the potential for change (Cardinal energy).

Let’s come back to Venus, ruler of both, the New and Full Moons. Although she has now regained dignity now traveling her own home sign of Libra, she quincunx this Full Moon. This means that her longing for harmony and peaceful social activity and relationships is at odds with the situation or events the Full Moon causes. Moreover, Venus opposes Chiron and squares that December 25, 2019 Solar Eclipse, reactivating the reason to ‘turn the last page of your old life’.

Venus and Chiron mirroring each other challenge us to love and embrace the wound as the instrument of the healing process. Chiron reminds us the we are all now wounded healers, and that the healing method is the wound. Instead of rejecting and projecting the wound onto others, we are to recognize that loving and accepting those who or that what have wounded us, paves the way to our own healing and renewal. This way, covid19 is our wounding healer, and Humanity is under homeopathic therapy. Thus, let us see ourselves in the mirror of our beloved. Chiron in Aries is all about ‘I am not good enough’. Venus on the opposite side in Libra as the ‘I love you’ symbol, seeks balance and reconciliation with ourselves.

This reconciliation can only be achieved by the purifying healing and rebirth that this Full Moon offers.
May all beings be well and safe! Sat Nam.

Chiron square the Moon Nodal Axis - Human Vulnerability

Our Human Wound
Chiron in Aries
Picture by Michael Silver at Love Has Won

The most important message Chiron in Aries brings in March is a lesson about human vulnerability in this third dimension of physicality (Saturn), and human lack of control over life. As incarnated beings in the flesh, we took the cross of limitation. We are not spirits freely roaming around anywhere, we are attached to matter and endure its rules (Saturn). Saturn glyph ♄, is the soul (curved leg) bending over under the weight of the 'cross'. It's not surprising that the physical life brings pain, illness, decay, and death. Saturn was anciently associated with the Grim Reaper as well. However, suffering, since it is our response to the pain, is a choice.

Chiron square December Solar Eclipse

The first week of March, Chiron in Aries squares the December 25-26, 2019 Solar Eclipse at 4º 6' Capricorn.
As I wrote in February, 4º Capricorn is also the degree of the previous Saturn Pluto conjunction January 4, 1518. Among other important events, that year Hernan Cortes headed to Mexico, where he so easily conquered a whole civilization of more than 30 million people, in just a few months! How? Two important allies: making alliance with Aztecs' enemies, and unknowingly bringing with them smallpox. To ensure victory, he burned the expedition ships! There was no return, it was a “win or die” determination.
Just that event opened the portal to the conquest of a whole New Continent, redistributing the powers of the time, and reconfiguring the geopolitical map of the whole World. Of course, the evolution was not done overnight, but in a really Capricornian (Saturnian) way, with ambition, persistence, patience (overtime), and much cruel bloodshed.

At the cosmological level, Nicolau Copernicus, opened Humanity's vision into the cosmos, telling us that the Earth was not the center of the Universe, but the Sun. Then, the process of accepting our cosmic abandonment (Chiron wound) started. Are we not the most important piece in the puzzle? Are we are just a speck in there, almost invisible?

The December Solar Eclipse opened a portal over that long gone past to see through the long way we've walked until our present time. 500 years later, January 12, 2020, Saturn Pluto historical conjunction in Capricorn, not only has threaten a global war, but brought a global illness that threatens our very human existence, but has also the potential to redistribute power. Covid19 impacts the elderly population at a higher percentage, and it's sparing the children and youth who are not much affected by it. The Sign of Capricorn, Saturn and Pluto are associated with the time (Chronos) old age, and the karmic past.

As a New Era dawns, Humanity has to leave behind (Capricorn South Node of the Moon) its old systems, socio-political structures, traditional institutions and obsolete conditionings and conventions. Because Pluto is associated with transmutation and regeneration, its energy may very well play a role in the reincarnation of very old and experienced souls that are being born since 2008 when this planet entered Capricorn.  Having lived through the Ages, they bring with them the karmic accumulation of wisdom issued of their learned lessons. Look closer at these young children, they are teaching the adults!

Squaring the Solar Eclipse point, Chiron is in the company of Black Moon Lilith in Aries, the shadow yin (feminine) energy inside of us.

In her book, The Astrology of the Black Moon, A Guide to Healing the Shadow Side, Laura Walker states that this conjunction
"Often poses a lifetime of painful experiences. This aspect almost demands that we sacrifice ourselves for others, leading us to walk through life with a deep wound that restricts our personal growth." Death thoughts invade our psyche, awakening "the desire for release from worldly problems."

She continues "we feel as if we have been wounded to the core. These are some of the most difficult transits. Deep sadness and depression are reported. [...] transits involving the Black Moon intensify feelings of pain that lead to not wanting to continue with life. Self-imposed sacrifices are made or activities are eliminated from outside forces. These transits, however, are designed to heal a wound (often from early childhood) and heal the primary fear. Circumstances come into place to push us to come to terms with our shadow side."

Furthermore, she associates Lilith in Aries with the shadow of success. "The Black Moon in Aries manifests in the intense quest to be valued and feel worthy."

As a collective, all the wounds we have inflicted upon ourselves, our human darkest crimes against our spiritual identity are in our face now. The challenge is to heal and Chiron in Aries is the key.

At a personal level, the events develop quickly with a cardinal square, which implies radical changes that will affect your future, your emotional security, comfort, thriving, and survival. My February's Chiron article addresses extensively the personal themes of Lilith and Chiron present conjunction.

Mars in Capricorn, ruler of Chiron in Aries

Mars in Capricorn is the most important actor during March, at least.  Mars will most probably instigate and stir up with impulse if not violence the forces that were awaken with the events that took place between the last two eclipses (threat of war, new illness, refugee crisis, etc). Mars is traditionally considered a 'malefic' influence bringing fevers, pests, heat, anger, and violence. Mars' proximity to Jupiter (traditional ruler of Pisces) increases his influence. Mars association with Chiron, as dispositor, represents well the present wounding effect of the Covid19.

Next New Moon March 23 meets Chiron in Aries and squares the Nodes of the Moon, making Humanity's wound sore. Chiron pokes emotions with his feelings of vulnerability and inadequacy, so we'll need to pamper ourselves a bit to feel better. The Moon in Aries adds a dose of assertiveness to your mood, you get things going, have the energy to get things done and determination to make decisions.

Chiron square the Cancer Capricorn Nodal Axis

Humanity, as a species, is at a crossroads. During this period, we understand how past actions (karma) weighs on our fragility. We are learning from the past mistakes and facing the challenge of our survival understanding the vulnerability of our inherent identity. The psychic shadows are now in the open for us to reckon with, and we look for refuge and protection for our human condition.

Chiron square the Cancer Capricorn Nodal Axis calls out for examination of and reflection on the past actions, social conventions, traditions, socio political structures, conditionings, established systems of operation, institutional organizations (Capricorn). The review shows that they have thwarted the purpose of our life. Looking for power, prestige, domination, material possessions, and social status (Capricorn) has made us cold, alienated and cruel, deeply wounding our emotional nature (Cancer), that requires affection, nurturance, comfort, protection, safety, and the tender life support that only family and human contact can provide.

The experiences that we perceive as negative, and sometimes catastrophic, are wake up calls and shakers that attempt to move us into balance and harmony with the Source of Life.

August 2019 Chiron Activation

From Wikipedia commons
That white speckle around 10 o'clock is not dust on your screen, it's Saturn, the blue circle in the middle is Jupiter's orbit around the Sun. The crazy red 'circle'? It's Chiron's orb. Do you understand now why it's called 'wounded'?

August 1 - Venus in Leo trine Chiron in Aires

"True love cannot be made without Chiron" Jeremy Neal

Venus comes along to the Sun stage in Leo as part of the cast, remember from July's episode of Chiron Story? Once more, she stirs Chiron's sensitivity to his ugliness and disharmony, but this time his painful love has matured. Chiron is now ready to take the challenge of unconditional love. His enlightenment allows him to "see beauty where [he hadn't] noticed it, and find value in what [he previously] dismissed as ugly or worthless" (Melanie Reinhart, The Healing Journey, pg 207).

Chiron's enlightenment is due to the influence of Venus square Uranus, the Lord of the Heavens, the awakener, and the maverick. This may have us like things we didn't like before, especially things, places, people foreign to us, different, foreign cultures, foreigners, out of the norm, and yes, imperfect! We  may attract or feel attracted to the weirdness of Chiron. Remember that Uranus is also making a long-lasting semi sextile with Chiron, about which I wrote in my July story.

Venus trine Chiron is part of the New Moon in Leo energy (July 31-August 1). Now, that Venus is so close to the Sun, she is 'shy', she is ready to make the necessary compromise, and give Chiron the kiss. Belle kisses the Beast. However, like with Shrek, the Beast may not transform into the beautiful blue-eyed charming Prince. That's not the point. What is important is to love ourselves just as we are. Are we ready to love the ugliness as well as the beauty? Can we live with imperfection and [maybe] dysmorphia? Can we forgive our shortcomings and try once more? Yes, we can, because Venus is inspired, generous, forgiving, and humble.

Venus in Leo trine Chiron in Aires is the most sacred self healing. A generous pouring of love helps Chiron to open up and show his wound of repressed feelings. We regain confidence in being human, a spiritual being living this wonderful physical experiment. Yes, we are vulnerable, yes we are hurt, yes we are imperfect, and THAT's our medicine. If we are to succeed in a love relationship, we start by learning self-love.

August 11 - The Moon square Chiron

The Moon in Capricorn forms the Third Quarter Square with Chiron. We find ourselves in introspection, reassessing the emotional process of our healing. We may feel grateful for the results. We have gained some revealing insights about how the Chiron wound works in our life. So, we are ready to let go of a piece of the pain and suffering. We assimilate the healing like fresh water in a hot day.
The Moon is the one that is constantly touching our wound, so you might want to read my blog post on the specific influence of the Moon Phases on Chiron.

August 16 - Mercury trine Chiron

Mercury in Leo has come to serve Apollo, he is the negotiator messenger or mediator in conflicts. If you remember,   last month Mercury stopped less than a degree short of trining Chiron when he turn 'retrograde'. There was a piece of information he was missing and went back to the degree of the July 16 Lunar Eclipse to find it. Picture this in your mind's eye: Mercury, the messenger of the Gods, goes back where Apollo was at 24º ♋️ to find something left behind. Something that happened or was stirred up during that eclipse was crucial and instrumental in the message Mercury brings to the Sun's home of Leo and to Chiron today.

Maybe, today we realize how this identity wound of Chiron in Aries, is related to our early childhood (Cancer) when we lived with our parents. We may remember, "When I was a child... I was once an unhappy child... I long for my home as I wanted it to be... I was hurt in my family then... that was the first time I felt  this wound." Something happened then. But we are ready to deal with it now, aren't we?

Again, remember that Mercury is also square Uranus. Uranus's electricity can jolt the mind, completely changing the thinking connections and patterns, and helping us see the reality from a entirely new perspective. Uranus awakens the mind! Especially in a hard cosmic aspect with Mercury, it challenges outmoded concepts, and questions our naming process.

If you remember, from my Chiron activation in June blogpost, today's story may be related to what was going on June 7. It even can refer to Chiron story in May when Mercury activated him. It is important to keep a journal, so we can observe our evolution, take conscious actions, and make conscious decisions. Listening to Mercury's message makes us aware. We question things and find answers.

When I heard the song "You Say" , it blew my mind how well it represents Mercury trine Chiron. It says: "I keep fighting voices in my mind that say I'm not enough. Every single lie that says I'll never measure up. Remind me once again just who I am, because I need to know." I hope you enjoy it.

So, today is the day to intellectually understand the lies we've been telling ourselves because of what we were once 'fed' at home early in life. Mercury in Leo, even though it's still combust because of the proximity of the Sun, still makes our mind confident, positive. This song or some other communication may be the inspirational message that can flip our wounded thinking forever. Listen!

August 25 -  Mars and Venus conjunct 5º Virgo, quincunx Chiron in Aries

Now we are learning how to adjust our performance, our actions with the new 'warrior' gear we just got with the Leo lessons. It may feel awkward to move with the new Chironic skills. Sometimes we may feel too impulsive, trying to initiate a different kind of relationships for example, other moments we may feel that we can't 'wear' this new concept of ourself so easily, we spend our energy analyzing or we just decide is better to retreat. Mars and Venus together increase our sensual attraction, we long for a tender sexual mate, but Chiron is nagging on the other side, still insecure, still not trusting in himself. The wound of love may bring up past life or childhood traumas in relationships that now need to be looked at in order to be resolved. But let's keep trying, in spite of the mistakes. Practice, practice, practice, makes it perfect.

August 29 - The Sun in Virgo quincunx Chiron

Now we need to adjust the new shine we have from the Sun energy. Since it is so new, we may try to show off too much, or we may fall back again to the shy side of  Chiron, avoiding taking the personal authority and confidence necessary to show who we really are. There might be moments when we ask, "is it true that I am OK with these faults, imperfections, shortcomings?,  will you accept me anyway?". Yes, you are OK! The more beautiful because you are crooked, hurt, full of scars, you are UNIQUE! So use the Sun's confidence and warmth to your advantage.

The Astronomy of Chiron

On a side note, remember that Chiron is now transiting the coldest side of his orbit around the Sun, meaning that is the farthest from him.  Chiron came to perihelion (closest point to the Sun) in 1996 and will reach aphelion mid 2021.  This deepens the meaning of Chiron transiting the Sign of Aries. The identity issues can be more cruelly perceived, may be more obscure also and harder to pinpoint for us. The more awareness you develop, the better. It is a good time to learn and practice some alternative healing methods based on using the wound. If you're interested, I refer you back to a previous post on the Healing Journey and the Cycles of Healing.

Note: Always consider transits in the context of your whole chart. I made the effort to do my analysis as thorough as possible, but it is not possible to give all the possibilities, much less the personal influence. Any transit is felt more intensely when it aspects one of your Natal or Progressed planets or points. In order to have a more accurate personal report you need a personal reading.

Much love to you. Sat Nam.

The Tale of Chiron - Activation in July 2019

This is a continuation of the series I am writing on Chiron. If you are not familiar with his story, I refer you to a previous post about him.  After studying Chiron's astrology from different authors, and having matured his archetype with his whole Revolution on my own chart, I have personally adopted him as the co-ruler of Virgo, my Rising Sign. Barbara Hand Clow makes the suggestion that Chiron is the actual ruler of Virgo, and I immediately agreed. Writing this series maybe I end up convincing Virgos about it. In any case, my sharing is part of my own Healing Journey.

Transits Activating Chiron - July 2019

July 6
Mercury ALMOST square Chiron
Not yet, because Mercury will turn retrograde July 7 at 4º ♌︎until 23º ♋️. However, in fiery Leo, Mercury can be dramatic and spontaneously childlike with a message, conversation or understanding that can help us heal the wound of our identity (Aries). Just pay attention. Mercury will come back with the definite answer beginning August.

July 7
Venus in Cancer square Chiron, and sextile Uranus

Venus in Cancer wants to be all cozy, gather the family around the fireplace in a cold winter night, eat her favorite homemade food, and enjoy the harmony of her home. And when the children fall asleep, she likes to slip with her lover under the covers for a warm embrace. 90º away, Chiron in Aries doesn't really know what to do, he feels insecure about her accepting him, he feels too ugly, insecure, inadequate. This is the true story of Belle and the Beast. He is so afraid of her kiss. He thinks, 'and if nothing happens? if she kisses me and I remain a monster?' He can't bear the idea of feeling ridiculous. For him, the best option is not even attempt it, and completely renounce to his dream of love.
With Uranus in between them, Venus is not too conforming. She is willing to seduce Chiron in unconventional ways, maybe becoming more intellectual, becoming friends, talking about scientific subjects.
Then Chiron, with the Uranus influence of the semi-sextile, is forced to diverge the energy by creating a solution that doesn't have to deal with the reality of the problem, or deals with it indirectly, with a detached, aloof, and sterile approach. Read about his Maverick friend, or foe? It also comes to my mind my favorite movie, Cyrano de Bergerac, where the 'beast' takes the vicarious approach to send his love letters to her lady. I have cried the hundred and one times I watched it.

Then, Chiron turns around and goes find the most horrendous witch of the forest, the one with a wart on her nose, so he can feel beautiful around her. No kidding! Having Chiron in the first house in a hard aspect with Venus, not only can the person always be attracted to the impossible, unattainable, unavailable love, but unconsciously has a tendency to find an ugly mate or make ugly acquaintances in order not to feel 'so bad or ugly' himself. This he does to ensure not being abandoned, because, in Chiron's mind, "how can the 'ugly duck' reject the awesome 'swan'?"

Chiron first wound was his mother's rejection, the second was his abandonment by both parents. This is why "True love can't never be made without Chiron". One needs to be able to parent oneself, and it is a long road of learning unconditional love. One needs to learn to accept oneself, with all the faults, shortcomings and deformities, as a whole perfect imperfection, like a parent should have loved us. Once we have made our own journey, we become healers. We talk about Chiron, and we do the Chiron touch on others with his magic wand.

July 8 Chiron Rx

Chiron looks back, he is 'retrograde'. Because he is so insecure, he reviews every step of his way. This time he will take 5 months to go back until 1º Aries where he was March 8 this year. From now until December 13, we will revisit everything related to his archetype during those previous four months. Time to reflect, meditate and ponder about our wound.

July 10
Mars in Leo trine Chiron Aries

Remember, Mars rules Aries! Mars has a great impact on Chiron travels in Aries. With the unexpected outburst from eccentric independent Uranus 90º away in Taurus, the sweaty and fearsome warrior climbs the stage and becomes an actor in this play. Of course, he's not too skillful at it, he may not even have a script, but he dares, has initiative. He doesn't really worry about making a career out of it, so it doesn't really matter how good or bad his performance is, he just shows up and does it.

This impulsive attitude lets Chiron leave behind his insecurities, after all, "if Mars can perform without skills, I can with all my talents!" -he thinks.  And he starts to see his skills. He is dexterous with the bow and arrows. He has endurance in the run because of his horse legs, so he can go long distances fast. He can make potions because he's studied Alchemy. He is an alternative healer, so can cure people with his herbal and energy healing techniques. He is an Astrologer, so he can help people understand themselves better and make better, sound decisions. With a newly gained confidence, he says to himself, "I can do it!" Chiron is making progress in his 'retrograde' reflective mode.

July 28
Sun in Leo square Uranus trine Chiron in Aries
Apollo Belvedere c. 120–140 CE

The Sun is the epitome of acting and creating, shining bright in his own home, and stirred up by a square to Uranus, performs unexpectedly on his own stage. Now the Sun calls Chiron on stage, gives him the fiery spirit and confidence about his differences (Uranus), so he comes out and performs himself. Even though Chiron can see his 'imperfection' clearer, the Sun's warmth, love and generosity fires up Chiron's spirit with the power of forgiveness. Remember that Apollo was Chiron's adoptive father. Apollo, the God of the Sun in Greek Mythology, was the one who cared for, raised, and taught Chiron until he became an adult. Apollo enlightened Chiron, he taught him all he knew about diseases, healing, music, poetry, songs, dance, archery, and who knows what else! Apollo must have trusted his disciple very much because he assigned him the education of Asclepius, who became the God of Medicine, Healing, Rejuvenation and Doctors.
So, now, Chiron trusts Apollo's advice, and he is ready to climb to the stage and perform with confidence in his talents, with the conviction that he is there to help others heal as well as he did. After all, Uranus says that it is OK to be different, weird and queer!

August 1
Venus in Leo trine Chiron

By the end of July and beginning August, Venus comes along to the Sun stage in Leo as part of the cast.

Next month, I'll tell you more about Venus and Chiron story, because that belongs to the month of August. I hope that little tale inspires you to take a second look at your Chiron in Aries, and transfer its symbolism to your life now, so you can heal that wound. Much love to you!

Make it a good month! Sat Nam.
