North Node in Cancer and the Urge for Spiritual Development

The Urge for Spiritual Development

Neptune in Pisces has been trine to the Moon’s North Node for some time already, and is now at 18º. Neptune is the higher octave of Venus and much more! In Mythology, he is Poseidon, the God of the High Seas; in Astrology he is the ruler of Pisces, and the highest Water element. This means that Neptune gives us higher levels of intuition, imagination, sensitivity, unconditional love, inspiration and creativity, devotion and refinement. It drives our yearn for spirituality and the need to seek union with the divinity and all existence. At the same time, it could have a negative effect, especially if we are not in tune with those energies because of spiritual immaturity. Then with his psychic overload, we can enter ‘la la land’ of confusion, delusion, escapist behavior, like any kind of addictions. Figuratively, we can get lost in an ‘ocean’ of emotions and dreams.

Neptune is also presently square to Jupiter. Remember that both planets are rulers of Pisces, the most spiritual Sign of the Zodiac. Jupiter rules also Sagittarius, Natural Law, and the need to go beyond the analytical mind to find a higher understanding and grasp the ‘big picture’. Moreover, Jupiter magnifies whatever he touches. This planet, next in size after the Sun, is the biggest of the Solar System, 300 times the size of Earth. Can your regular mind grasp its power? Not only can Jupiter magnify the predisposition to spiritual interest, but can also make us fall into fanaticism, or extreme ideologies.

The Neptune Jupiter square is active all year long even though exact just three times. Their influence enhances the spiritual energy, and our need to go beyond the mundane and tangible level of life. We are seeking meaning and the truth that can only come through connecting with the invisible realm. Some feel inclined to use drugs that take them there, however with great confusion and delusions. Others will seek spiritual teachers, or develop psychic abilities that open up the spiritual vision. Others still will have vivid dreams, and astral travel during sleep or meditation that can show them the invisible reality. Others may experience a surge of inspiration for artistic endeavors, like enhanced ability for performing, dancing, photography or poetry.

The trine of Neptune with the North Node in Cancer makes the above mentioned energy even more urgent and compelling. In ancient oriental Astrology, the North Node is Rahu, the head of a Dragon who wanted to become god. As punishment, he was cut in half, and kept in his head his unquenchable thirst for achieving that goal. The drive for spiritual development is thus impelling and constraining. In Cancer, Rahu is also searching impulsively for emotional shelter in those spiritual foundations. These are times of social, political and general structural disintegration (Pluto transiting Capricorn), when the mundane chaos is so disorienting that people need to establish an emotional footing where they can ground themselves and find stability.

Considering that the South Node is with Saturn in Capricorn, we’ve been under pressure to mature and accept a new physical reality. Remember that Saturn ate his children, which mythologically symbolizes our ‘adulting’ process over time (Saturn was also Chronos, the God of Time). With the South Node we are leaving behind childish behavior, outmoded life structures (especially those marked by the zodiac house where Saturn is transiting in your own Chart), and even unconscious programming (also called Karma), and past life unfinished business. We are, again, compelled to embrace responsibility, discipline and reality. In fact, Saturn supports very gracefully the spiritual work Neptune is doing for us in Pisces, helping us materialize it and bring it into our daily reality (♄ ✽ ♆).

Because we are developing spiritually at an accelerated rate, we easily change things that do not agree with our new condition. It’s probably a favorable time to become sober, to embark on an addiction rehab program, or simply change environments and people we frequent. The places where these planets fall in your Natal Chart are where this is a great time to have a major transformation that will help you live a more fulfilling life, become wiser and happier.

It’s up to us to wisely and effectively use those energies.
