The Lunar Eclipse Effect

A Lunar Eclipse happens when the Sun exactly opposes the Moon near the Lunar Nodes. In personal lives, psychologically, the Moon represents the unconscious mind and memories, the Sun represents the soul consciousness. In opposition, the Moon fully illuminated by the sunlight reflects the consciousness. The Moon opposite the Sun, may bring out relationship issues into awareness so we are able to see what was hidden before.

Eclipses have a ‘fated’ flavor because of the close contact with the Nodes. This is a Full Moon eclipse on the North Node.  Generally speaking, fate or karma is the unconscious conditionings playing out in your life, or events out of your control. This Full Moon eclipse may trigger spontaneous reactions to outside events or other people, because it plays out as yin and yang (receptive and projective) opposing forces in need of rebalance.

The series of Cancer Capricorn eclipses started in the Summer of 2018 with the Solar Eclipse at 20º ♋️ on July 12, 2018. This Full Moon may bring about the culmination of what was started then or with the previous Solar Eclipse July 11, 2010 at 20º ♋️. The Cancer Capricorn eclipse ‘season’ lasts until July 5th 2020 with the last Lunar (completion) Eclipse in Capricorn. It means that we are working with the same evolutionary theme in different ways for about 2 years. The degrees activated by it are 20, 15, 10, 24, 10, 4, 0 and 13 in that order. You may look at your own Birth Chart to locate those degrees, and find what planets and angles are activated. This way you identify how the eclipses are affecting your life. Eclipses have a cycle of 18.5 years, meaning that they repeat periodically approximately at the same degree. Last time we had a Lunar Eclipse at 20º Cancer was January 9, 2001.  So, if you feel that what is happening now in your life is a ‘déjà-vu’ kind of theme, is because IT IS! Only now, it may be higher in the evolutionary spiral. Do you remember what was happening in your life then?  Situations, circumstances, events and people related to your personal theme may resonate with what happened in 2001, and even 18.5 years before then, around 1983.

This is something Astrologers have observed and correlated for thousands and thousands of years, with themes in society and personal life. The repetition of the eclipse cycle allows us to understand, process and develop the particular evolutionary theme (according to the zodiac house where it falls on your personal chart). If you compare with previous cycles, you can see a pattern clearly defined in your life.

Fate or free will?

Every time we incarnate, we are born with our own plan, usually consequence of previous soul development. The plan is 'written' in our Birth Chart. We are free to take the challenge or not, but every repetition of the theme gives us the opportunity to further our evolution. If we resist it, the evolutionary urge could become more intense every time.

Considering Pluto and Saturn participation in the present Eclipse cycle, we can find ourselves in a pressure-cooker kind of situation. Especially because Pluto has a power that is out of our control. We are not able to deny or elude his impact that demands transmutation into a new form. This is why, the process is often referred to as the Phoenix coming back to life from the Ashes, or the regeneration process.

The Pluto Saturn conjunction opposite the Moon suggests a maturation process of separation, renunciation or sacrifice, particularly because the Sun and Mercury are close to the South Lunar Node that has a withdrawal effect. Something is removed from our life or things and people from the past may come back to finish business. The Full Moon conjoins the North Lunar Node 🌚☌ ☊, which leads us to eagerly seek the Cancerian themes. People, look for the comfort zone, a place of emotional security they can call home, come back to the mother, or seek motherly nourishment.

 Pluto has been decomposing and recycling the content of your Capricorn zodiac house. The South Node of the Moon breaks you free from your deepest unconscious patterns of behavior and conditioning from past situations, from this or previous lives. Issues related to fear, abandonment, separation, scarcity, austerity (Saturn), obsessive desires, sexual compulsion or manipulation, disempowerment, self undoing through addiction, codependency, life and death traumas (Pluto) may need confrontation and resolution. The transformation this Eclipse 'Season' operates applies to the events taking place in the area of your life where Cancer falls in your Chart. Because this Full Moon happens on the North Node, it is the culmination or full awareness of a process, and it helps you add something new in that area. 

The Lunar Eclipse Chart

This is a penumbral Lunar Eclipse in the Tropical Sign of Cancer, the Sign of the Crab, that creature hiding inside a hard shell. Cancer is the Cardinal Water Sign, where a Lunar eclipse means an emotional completion generating a change. Feminine issues may come to a head. Family, home, nurturance, nourishment, motherly, protection and domestic issues take greater importance or have a higher priority. The homeland safety and protection are also more relevant. A mother figure may take center stage for some reason. You may have the chance to fulfill a significant motherly duty. In addition, because the Sign of Cancer rules the fluctuation of water and the ties, a major water related natural event is possible as well.
For us, the eclipse energy means that we look for acceptance, safety, comfort, nourishment, protection and wellbeing. It happens near the North Node, which means that it is a completion of something, when we receive the results.

The main geographic region covered by this eclipse is Asia, mainly India, Pakistan, China, and the Arabian Peninsula. Its path is slightly north of the December eclipse path. Those countries are more likely to receive stronger effects from it.

Aspects to the Eclipse

Mercury is cazimi to the Sun because it is just at 6 minutes from its very heart and opposing the Moon. The cazimi condition empowers and strengthens Mercury's archetypal meaning. Powerful words, messages, communication or information make us aware of an issue related to the house occupied by Capricorn. You may get acquainted with a truth you never suspected. The public may be made aware of secret information with high stakes.

In the natural chart, the Capricorn Sun is at the highest point, representing the maximum visibility, the public sphere, governments, politics, and the world situation. Whatever the revealed piece of truth antagonizes with the general public, or the people, represented by the Moon. In this case, the Sun also represents a head of a state, be it a Prime Minister, President, King, etc., therefore, the message may come from that authority figure.

In your personal life, the yang or projective and active, and yin or passive and receptive energies are at odds and need rebalancing. In a partnership, the opposition takes place between a feminine and a masculine figures. Relationships may need to reach an accord, or dissolve.

T-Square of the Discord

In fact, the lonely Moon in the Sign of the Crab, is heavily opposed by all the cosmic bodies in Capricorn, namely, Mercury, Sun, Jupiter, Saturn, Pluto, Ceres and Chariklo AND squared by Eris, the dwarf planet named after the Goddess of the Discord.

Saturn and Pluto are just minutes away from their conjunction, the end of 500 year cycle. They have been operating a profound structural transformation at all levels.

The Asteroid Ceres is also closely to the conjunction at 22º. Ceres is the Roman equivalent of Demeter, daughter of Chronos (Saturn), Greek Goddess of agriculture.  "Ceres is the goddess of the harvest and presides over grains (cereals) and the fertility of the earth. Although she was most often referred to as the goddess of the harvest, she was also goddess of sacred law and the cycle of life and death, because she nourishes life (wikipedia).

Her virgin daughter Persephone was abducted by the god of the underworld richess, Hades or Pluto. In grief, Ceres endlessly searched for her daughter.  Because of her loss, the seasons halted and living things stopped growing and died. At this point, Jupiter, intervened and sent his messenger Mercury, to the underworld to bring Persephone back and prevent the extinction of all life on Earth. Hades agreed to Persephone’s relief but she was bound to him for one third of the year.

The symbolism of the Saturn Pluto conjunction with Ceres shows the importance of the Earth transmutation that is taking place at this time. People are made aware of the destructive consequences of the industrial revolution pushed to the extreme of 'raping' the Earth to extract her substance. Humanity realizes the need to transform the global economy and create a sustainable economic system. Ceres demands protection, care, support and proper nourishment in order to survive.

According to the Astrologer Melanie Reinhart, Chariklo, in turn, also at 23º ♑️represents the intrinsic healing power of the loving Source energy. She is the 'enabler of healing'. Like Chiron, the asteroid Chariklo orbits between Saturn and Uranus.

The centauress Chariklo was Chiron's wife. Chiron had the tools and learned all the skills of healing, Chariklo was the healing power itself. The symbolism of Chariklo in this powerful historical conjunction is significantly critical, because if Humanity is to survive, human beings need to tap into their healing power and learn how to use it.

Eris, herself, is at 23º Aries, the Sign of her brother Ares (Mars). Here is a brief account of the myth of Eris, the Goddess of Strife and Discord.

With a Golden Apple offered to the fairest, Eris triggered the discord among the most beautiful Greek women and their suitors, which provoked the Trojan War.  It was a conflict of passions, vanity, self-glorification, and unbridled desire for power. Does it resonate with the present state of affairs?  How current! -you think. Eris has an orbit around the Sun of more than 500 years -twice the time Pluto takes, therefore, she stays a long time in each Zodiac Sign and visits every degree at least three times.  To better understand Eris astrological influence on historical events, I refer you to the  Astrologer Daniel Fiverson's research, which he summarizes in this video.

The Moon reaches her fullness of emotional power in the Sign of Cancer at 20º, squaring Eris with only 3º orb. We can expect antagonism and conflicts to heat up even more, and calls for war are possible somewhere in the world. Considering the historical precedents marked by Eris square Saturn (the old, and past karma), those hostilities may arise in the Middle East. Weather or natural catastrophes requiring people to find shelter are not discarded either.

Your personal life may not be free of struggles. Pay attention to the developments during the last two years, and the houses occupied by Aries, Cancer and Capricorn to understand the themes involved in the 'discord'.

Uranus in Taurus turns direct today

Uranus had turned retrograde exactly five months ago on August 11, 2019. The retrograde process is like the archer tensing back the bow with the arrow to gain the strength needed for the forward impulse. As the innovative maverick, Uranus' effect is unpredictable. However, you know exactly what you need to change, but don't know how yet.

When retrograde, his energy is bottled up and the erratic impulse contained in a way that intensifies the electrical potency Uranus has. There is more anxiety, restlessness and one may ruminate and brew feelings of being trapped in stubborn situations, ways or values. The popular revolts show this intensification.
People have revisited whatever happened in their lives from April to August 2019, objectively considering and examining what needs change and liberation. Questions like 'what do I need to let go of?; what are the implications of this change?; how will life look afterwards?' are on the table for this review.

Once the archer lets go of the arrow, there is no way back! Once Uranus turns direct, you're ready for shaking and breaking your most stubborn ways, values, situations, desires, habits, circumstances, contracts, agreements, etc. The theme depends on the zodiac house occupied by transiting Uranus, but you'll certainly be ready to embrace your freedom in an unpredictable way.

At a global level, the liberating changes are related to the financial markets, food supply, raw materials, and everything related to values, energy and tangible goods to sustain life.

The Lunar Eclipse Degree

For those inclined to reflect upon archetypes, here is some more food for thought. This is Dane Rudyard's Sebian Symbol for the Lunar Eclipse Degree. "Cancer 21°: A famous singer is proving her virtuosity during an operatic performance. Keynote: The emotional reward accompanying cultural excellence. If anything represents the type of response that a well-developed society gives to the individual who successfully pours their energy into the skillful externalization of the great images of its culture, it is the opera. The operatic prima donna is not merely a lonely performer; he or she is the star in a collective effort. The opera is not only music, but a story, a mythos, which embodies some of the most basic images and emotions characterizing the culture that gave it birth. […] We find the drive toward individualization by means of concrete forms of cultural activity glorified in social and financial success. In its deepest sense the symbol refers to THE PRICE OF SUCCESS — for the individual, as well for as the collectivity acclaiming him or her."(An Astrological Mandala)

What stands out to me is "she or he is the star in a collective effort". The performance we see in the outside world is probably just the reflection of the collective inner consciousness.

Lunar Eclipse Effects for the 12 Signs

Here is a guide to the corresponding house where the Lunar Eclipse falls for each Rising Sign, with some keywords for the themes. Also look where 20º of Cancer falls in your chart, and if you have planets around that degree in the Cardinal Signs, Aries, Cancer, Libra and Capricorn; those will be the most affected.
