 The Mars Sun conjunction in Capricorn happens alternately every 14 or every 33 years. 

 Actions or activities developed during their two year cycle started in Capricorn have lasting effects or lingering consequences. Their cycle is marked with government and institutional power struggles resulting often in change of regimes or dynasties. Most events are associated with military activities or missions that often involve or are related to an authority figure of some kind. In this article there is an exploration of historical events associated with previous Mars Sun in Capricorn cycles. The author only chose events related to the Mars, Sun and Capricorn archetypes.

There were institutional Wars in Japan, in New Zealand, and Paraguay. A 'hero' (Mars) was released from prison (Capricorn) by a military leader (Sun in Capricorn) in Abyssinia. The very same day of the conjunction...

"The British Expedition to Abyssinia was a rescue mission and punitive expedition carried out in 1868 [January 2] by the armed forces of the British Empire against the Ethiopian Empire (also known at the time as Abyssinia). Emperor Tewodros II of Ethiopia, then often referred to by the anglicized name Theodore, imprisoned several missionaries and two representatives of the British government in an attempt to force the British government to comply with his requests for military assistance. The punitive expedition launched by the British in response required the transportation of a sizeable military force hundreds of kilometres across mountainous terrain lacking any road system. The formidable obstacles to the action were overcome by the commander of the expedition, General Robert Napier, who captured the Ethiopian capital, and rescued all the hostages. Historian Harold G. That expedition ended when the Emperor Tewodros II commited suicide. 

There were power struggles in Japan against the established power of the Shogunate Tokugawa. The year ended with the Emperor Meiji taking power, thus changing dynasties. This created a centralized government in the country. 

In the Paraguayan War, Brazilian Army commander Luis Alves de Lima e Silva, Duke of Caxias, entered Asunción, Paraguay's capital. Some days later he declared the war was over. Nevertheless, Francisco Solano López, Paraguay's president, prepared guerrillas to fight in the countryside.

In the United States Memorial Day was observed for the first time. In addition, the 14th Amendment was ratified ensuring the civil rights and liberties in the United States. It defines citizenship, addresses equal protection under the law, and due process. It prevents states from abridging the privileges or immunities of citizens, and ensures no state can deprive any person of life, liberty, or property without due process, or deny them equal protection of the laws. 

Keep in mind that at that time, only white men were considered full citizens, and this Amendment granted rights to Black people. In fact, the 14th Amendment led to increased tensions between white and black men. 

There were wars against Native peoples in America, as well as the Opelousas massacre, one of the bloodiest massacres against Black people of the Reconstruction era in the United States.

From this particular cycle, the conclusion is that Mars Sun in Capricorn can relate to conflicts of power and struggles for the supremacy of one faction over another, often with armed conflicts.

The Galveston hurricane would become the deadliest natural disaster in United States history, killing between 6,000 and 12,000 people, mostly in and near Galveston, Texas, as well as leaving 10,000 people homeless, destroying 7,000 buildings of all kinds in Galveston. As of 2025, it remains the fourth deadliest Atlantic hurricane on record. 

The U.S. Secretary of State John Hay announced the Open Door Policy regarding China, advocating for equal access for all nations to the Chinese market.

They decided the "primary devils" were the Christian missionaries while the "secondary devils" were the Chinese converts to Christianity, which both had either to repent, be driven out or killed. The Western success at controlling China, growing anti-imperialist sentiment, and extreme weather conditions sparked the movement." The Federation of Australia was enacted, marking the unification of its colonies into a single country under British law.  

Max Planck formulated Planck's law of black-body radiation, marking the birth of modern quantum mechanics, which would revolutionize humanity's understanding of the universe, leading to  groundbreaking discoveries in technology, energy, and the fabric of reality itself. 

Botanist Hugo de Vries would rediscover Mendel's laws of heredity, laying the foundation for the field of genetics.

The ABO blood group system, which becomes fundamental in transfusion medicine was discovered by Karl Landsteiner, saving countless of lives across the globe.

Gamma Rays were discovered by French physicist Paul Villard, while studying uranium decay, unveiling the mystery of the universe's most powerful phenomena, marking an important advancement in nuclear physics.

The U.S. Senate accepted the British-German Treaty of 1899 on January 14, which laid the groundwork for the construction of the Panama Canal.

The conclusion for this period reveals additional themes: treaties that determine who has power over what or to share power as well as uprising against the powers that be; scientific (Capricorn) investigations (Mars) and discoveries (Sun) of the structures of reality (Saturn) (i.e. quantum, genetics, blood constitution, gamma rays, nuclear physics). The Galveston hurricane represent the destruction (Mars) of material structures (Capricorn).

Definitely, the Mars Sun opposition to Pluto reflects the power struggles that started  the WWI. The issues at stake during this war were the ambition for territorial expansion (Capricorn) in order to control resources, increase political powers (Mars Sun in Capricorn) struggling for the survival of empires of the moment (Sun), resulting in new alliances and the development of military might (Mars in Capricorn). 

On December that year, Shackleton proposes and plans his expedition to Antarctica aiming to reach the South Pole.

  

Since that cycle, stainless steel has been introduced in everyday items for the household. This material reaching center stage in our lives (Sun), combines the traits of Mars (metal) with the endurance and longevity of Capricorn.

The Harrison Narcotics Tax Act began the ongoing international war on drugs. This is a relentless kind of war that has reached global dimensions as the Cartels grow ever stronger in power.

NY stock exchange reopened after several months of closure due to war. Finances are another theme for Mars in Capricorn.

Egypt became a British protectorate. 

Mohandas Gandhi left England, sailing for India where he engaged in his peaceful political activism. 

During this period Sun Mars in Capricorn seemed to have favored great leadership achievements and feats. Major changes in the distribution of territorial control by diverse powers were the result of the WWI in Europe. The structures of society were also reconstructed due to the high number of deaths.

On March 12, 1947, President Truman announced the Truman Doctrine, a policy to contain the spread of communism. The Marshall Plan, also known as the European Recovery Program, was proposed in June 1947 to help European nations recover economically from World War II. 

During the winter of 1946–47 the United Kingdom suffered the worst snowfall in the country in the 20th century causes extensive disruption of travel. Given the low ratio of private vehicle ownership at the time, it is mainly remembered in terms of its effects on the railway network.

During this period barriers of diverse kinds were broken, and the historical geopolitical reconfiguration redefined a new world order of East and West.

In 1979, the United States officially severed diplomatic ties with the Republic of China (Taiwan). This decision marked a significant shift in U.S. foreign policy, turning to view the People's Republic of China as the sole legitimate representative of China.

The United States and the People's Republic of China established full diplomatic relations. Deng Xiaoping arrived in Washington, D.C., for the first visit of a paramount leader of the People's Republic of China to the United States.

Cambodian–Vietnamese War: The People's Army of Vietnam and Vietnamese-backed Cambodian insurgents announced the fall of Phnom Penh, Cambodia, and the collapse of the Pol Pot regime. Pol Pot and the Khmer Rouge retreated west to an area along the Thai border, ending large-scale fighting.

The Soviet Union covertly launched its invasion of Afghanistan starting a period of several decenies of struggle.

 The Iranian Revolution ended with the Iranian army withdrawing to its barracks leaving power in the hands of Ayatollah Khomeini, ending the Pahlavi dynasty.

Notorious drug lord, Pablo Escobar is gunned down by police in Colombia.

President Bill Clinton signed into law the North American Free Trade Agreement removing trade barriers between Canada, Mexico, and the United States.

The Downing Street Declaration is signed between the UK and Irish governments to compromise on the future of Northern Ireland.

After a mission to repair an optical flaw was launched on December 2nd, the first clear images from the Hubble Telescope are taken.

Diplomatic relations were established between Israel and the Vatican.

During this two year period Mars effect seemed to have been more restricted, probably due to the huge stellium in Capricorn that included Neptune, Venus, Mercury and Uranus blending their energies.

After reviewing the list of events, one realizes that many of the themes in previous Sun Mars cycles in Capricorn have to do with iron determination to achieve goals using the strongest actions possible. Some of the issues persist over several cycles and still in today's world affairs, or the countries involved are now dealing the consequences. 

This cycle seems to relate to themes of territorial control, conflicts over resources, treaties defining dependence or independence from the empire of the day, the overthrow of one empire, and the emergence of a new one. 

For example, it seems that countries' relationships and their territorial/resources conflicts like the ones between China-United States, Russia-United States, India-Pakistan, Iran-United States, Israel-Palestine, are still current and under further development. 

From those shifts of power over the population, issues of citizenship creation, regulation, recognition, and annulment are inherent. 

Also significant are the scientific findings that explain certain structures of reality. 

New developments, conflicts and resolution of conflicts can be expected for the next Mars Sun cycle in the Sign of Capricorn. 

Chart Analysis 

The 2026 chart features a partile Sun Mars conjunction with Venus, all at 19º Capricorn, opposite Jupiter, and square Chiron. And a four-planet stellium, MC and Vesta, all in Capricorn. 

There is a risk of corporations, government institutions, and military authorities being extremely impulsive, and using extreme force to enforce restrictions. This, with an exaggerated optimism and confidence that doing so ensures the security of home, family, or the home country. There is danger of driving forward an exacerbated nationalism for the protection of one's own country, town or family, with an inflated sense of self importance. Some of these issues may provoke conflicts due to religious beliefs. 

Having Chiron at the apex, may indicate some kind of wounding as a result. Travel may become dangerous. Contact with foreigners and visiting other countries may present difficulties due to cultural or religious differences, or conflicts of customs. 

Hospitals, universities and other related institutions could be the source of discord, and serious legal problems. Governmental unipersonal authorities could implement restrictions to foreigners, and employ the military to enforce them. 

Venus could act as a deal breaker factor here, helping to soften the actions of those in power in order for them to pass smoothlier. She seems to be the sugar one adds to a bitter beverage. 

The next Mars Sun conjunction curiously will take place at 1º 0' Aries exactly, March 21, 2028.

The Opportunity to Heal Relationships

    Feeling frustrated yet? Yes, Mars is in Libra under the Sunrays! This Libra New Moon is so intense that you've already been feeling it probably since a week ago. If you read my Daily Transits (scroll down), you've probably understood what was going on in your life in relationships. 

    The Libra New Moon special feature is that there are three cycles starting at the same time. The New Moon, the New Mars, and four days later the New Mercury. The Sun highlights and purifies each of them on the subject of Libra, which is relationships.  This means that the conjunction Moon Sun Mars Mercury infuses not only the Moon Cycle, or the six months until the Libra Full Moon, but the two years of the Mars cycle and the almost three months of the Mercury cycle. So, it's a good idea to take note of the events in your life around this Lunation, to keep track of those cycles, and see the developments that each planet brings as it travels around the zodiac. 

    By the same token, after emerging from their initiation with Chiron, the Sun has travelled for months through the different phases (aspects), with opportunities, struggles, challenges, self analysis, and accomplishments. Today, the Sun and the Moon show the fullness (opposition) of their revolution. Our emotional reactive instinct (Moon) joins the essence of our individuality (Sun), and they both look themselves in the mirror of Chiron. It's their maximum potential of their cycle with Chiron this year.  

    The Libra New Moon indicates a reset in relationships. The phases of planetary relationship, called aspects, parallel the evolution of Nature through the seasons. Symbolically, we go from the darkness of Winter all the way to the full fruition of the Summer, and the way back to Winter. Similarly to the human development, planetary cycles to one another follow the 'seasons' cycle. They have birth (conjunction), growth, development, maturation, reproduction, decay and death. We discussed about the phases of the Moon in relation to Chiron in a previous article, and throughout the year we've been discussing the phases of the Sun in relation to Chiron as well. October 3, the Sun opposed Chiron exactly.

    With this New Moon opposite Chiron, we experience the pain to be ourselves reflected on 'another'. This opposition presents us with situations where we can find ourselves projecting our insecurities, inadequacies, and vulnerabilities on the 'other' like on a mirror. Hopefully, we've been consciously working on them since March 28, 2021 when the Sun conjoined Chiron, we've faced the struggles and overcame them. Think back, how you were feeling about yourself then? and how your relationships have evolved since? Go back and read my daily transits. The New Moon gives us a new perspective about our relationships. 

    Today, we become aware of some aspect of a relationship, realize a truth, or accomplish an important milestone in the evolution of that relationship. Something about who we are has been bothering it, and we need to embrace those feelings of not being 'good enough', of being faulty or at fault, of being inadequate. There is a new emotional awareness, of our own imperfections, moral, psychological, physical, appearing in the relationship as blocks or obstacles. However, at the same time, we can find a way to accept and integrate them, and work with them to make the relationship more functional. 

    In fact, the most important relationship we are working with is the relationship with ourselves.  Today, the mirror shows us that painful piece, that fragment of our individuality that we need to integrate in order to love ourselves just as we are. 

    In the world, this shows up in the overwhelming problem of people forced to unroot themselves from their own country, culture, customs, religion and lifestyle because of unsolvable conflicts of war, famine, or violence. Incorrectly called 'immigrants' instead of 'refugees', once they cross frontiers, they find themselves facing the pain of being 'different' as seen by the others. The New Moon is hopefully, the time when we start looking ourselves in them. Face to face, aren't we as different to them as they look to be for us? And, in the end, don't we all of us, human beings, have the same needs, sorrows and desires?

    At the same time, this awkward relationship with Uranus, shows up as a dislocation between the harmony required in this new beginning and finding difficult to conform to 'normal' expectations. Uranus in Taurus, a stubborn Earth Sign, builds up under the surface, and once the pressure is too high, it explodes, like a volcano. Although we accept and integrate our feelings of imperfection, and of not measuring up to the circumstances of our relationships, yet in order for us to break free, we rebel against those who don't tolerate 'differences'.

    Humanity as a whole realizes now how broken it is. We have our own self-undoing IN OUR FACE. It shows as the refugee asking for asylum, as the unemployed or needy person, as a rejected friend from a group, as a rejected citizen from a community, as another war-broken human being at our door, or as a victim of a catastrophe. 

    The New Moon also makes a tight trine to the Jupiter Saturn midpoint (14º♒️43). Here, we are challenged to revise and adjust the social norms to liberate us from the restraining conditioning of the collective consciousness. There is a need for farther reaching conversations, and finding middle ground between two stubborn positions. The strong energy with three planets in Libra looks for diplomatic negotiations. Even though the situation looks challenging or unsolvable, Libra demands listening, considering the 'other's position who is diametrically different, original, or 'out of the norm'. Libra is able to cross the street to the other side and change perspective in order to allow the relationship to happen.

     We now got to the point that there is so much migration in all directions, that those who have been stubbornly holding to 'my way is the right way' of being, will break down. We got to the point of having to recognize that there is only ONE HUMAN that needs a human way to survive, even though the package changes colors. This is evident in the long lasting semi-sextile between Chiron and Uranus. As a whole, humanity will be forced to bridge the gaps of differences and understand that whatever we do to others, we do to ourselves. 

    Melanie Reinhart called Chiron, the Rainbow Bridge, between two worlds, the ideal and the material, the spiritual and the physical. It is through experiencing the pain of being human, with basic survival needs for food, shelter and safety, that we finally understand the commonality. Then, we can finally build a community where we live and work for the benefit of all, not just for the selfish survival of the individual. We will learn mutual cooperation, because we will understand the downside of the competition that is taking us to extinction. We will learn innovative and alternative creative methods never considered or used before in order to operate this shift and survive as the human race.
