2023 New Year Vibes

January 1st, 2023 Chart

Dominant Elements & Energies

The Earth element is predominant by far. The dominant modality is Cardinal. The stronger planets are Jupiter, Venus and Mercury, in that order.

Capricorn Moon Cycle

The abundance of Earth energy will probably translate into growing struggles in the material reality (Taurus Capricorn trine) with increasingly stark climate events. The year starts within the Capricorn Moon Cycle, with the crescent gibbous Moon. The trine between the Moon and the Sun is the stage of growth and increase during the moon cycle. With several planets in Capricorn, this Moon cycle indicates that the whole year will be austere, and will increasingly present serious organizational and systemic issues that need fixing (Virgo empty leg of the trine).  For instance, extreme temperatures may devastate Nature and impact all forms of life on Earth, including human life. The problems with distribution of energy and food will probably increase and require innovative (Uranus in Taurus) ways of dealing with them. And health issues may ensue requiring urgent attention.

It's time to look at reality in the face and understand how humans have been abusing natural resources. Excessive and unnecessary consumption in certain places of the globe has overburdened other productive areas to the maximum to the point of depleting resources. Furthermore, in great proportion, most resources are later wasted by those who think that are entitled to having ever more.

The Capricorn Taurus trine is helping to put this reality in blunt and undeniable evidence. Uranus jolting Nature in all manners of ways, brings one surprise after another inviting humans to wake up to reality. This brings forward the negligence and misadministration of the material aspects of life by the corporations and government institutions (Capricorn), which, farther from seeking the wellbeing of the people they are supposed to serve, only rule by the principles of profit and ambitious capital growth.

Additionally, Saturn, the Lord of all these planets in Capricorn is still in Aquarius, therefore social restrictions, communication censorship, human rights violations don't go away yet. Saturn moving to Pisces will bring other reasons and ways to regulate and control the masses.

Pluto's 15-year transit in Capricorn has relentlessly brought out to light the devastating consequences of those corrupted practices. In the era of globalization and with the help of  mass media, the citizens of the world realize how they have been abused and enslaved for the benefit of a few, while these few have been building a pyramid of power on the heads and shoulders of the masses. Pluto's work has decomposed the system, and reduced it to dust. The established system is not able to cope with the current reality. Governments try desperately to patch here and there the broken sociopolitical organization, in unsuccessful attempts to control spending, inflation, production, employment, and other issues.

With Pluto in Capricorn, the system has rotted to the core. There is no way back. Pluto destroys, demolishes, decomposes, and then, uses the compost to give birth to the new.

The Spring of the new life is near. It's a slow process that may start in March 2023 with the shift of Saturn and Pluto to new Signs. It will continue through February 2026 when Saturn conjoins Neptune in Aries. Slowly but surely, it's coming.

Distribution of Energies on the Chart

The planets are distributed in the last and first quadrants of the natural zodiac. This means that the old is ending (through Capricorn, Aquarius and Pisces) and the birthing labor of the new has already started at the same time (through Aries, Taurus and Gemini).

Pluto in Capricorn, Saturn in Capricorn and Aquarius, and Neptune in Pisces have been in charge of the political demolition, social restructuring, and final dissolution -respectively- of the current global system.

Eris, the Goddess of Discord, in Aries for the last almost hundred years has been reclaiming the right of existence, especially for those left out of the 'gods' banquet'. The maverick Uranus gave a futuristic perspective to the human identity (transiting Aries). Chiron came behind clamouring for those who are 'different' to be recognized and accepted as contributors in society. Jupiter is now augmenting those Aries energies until May 2023. With intense and shocking shake ups, Uranus in Taurus has been waking up citizens around the world, with urgency. He urges us to attend to our environmental reality and the way we use resources, with the objective of finding new ways of sustaining life on Earth.

2023 Chart Analysis

The Cardinal energy from Capricorn to Aries, stimulates us to change, to do something related to the planets symbolism and the houses they transit on your natal chart.

The final dispositors of the January First 2023 chart are Venus and Neptune. Venus in Capricorn deals with the tangibles of life, or the material reality. Money, resources, and all 'substance' and energy sources that sustains life are on the table, as well as the urge to create peace and harmony. To talk about Neptune in Pisces, the astrologer will need to write a book. Suffice to say here that Neptune activates the disease and health axis of Virgo-Pisces, where all imbalances are symbolized. The combination of Venus and Neptune brings confusion to the tangible world, and possible dissolution of certain aspects of it. Things may not be as they seem.

Venus, Mercury and Cupid, Louis Michel Van Loo

Mercury retrograde in Capricorn increases people's mental focus on the need to organize the material reality. In addition, all Mercury retrogrades of this year will take place in the Earth Signs of Capricorn, Taurus, and Virgo, highlighting this focus.

Mercury Stationary Retrograde

Hygiea is prominent for several reasons. For one, Hygiea is the 'cutting' planet, or "the planet facing, in a clockwise direction, the largest open space between two planets in the horoscope. [...] It shows the manner in which the individual enters into new experiences."1 This means that for people to initiate any activity or experience, they have to take disease prevention into consideration. If the Sun is considered the first planet instead, that means that people will think first of protecting themselves, when entering new experiences (Sun in Capricorn can build walls around).

In addition, with Hygiea at the top of the World chart in square to Jupiter in Aries, people will have to give high priority to a better planification of disease prevention. Governments will have to better fund and manage the public healthcare system. Not only that, but Jupiter semi-square Uranus may indicate the need or demand for the freedom to decide for oneself when it comes to healthcare. However, it could also reflect legislation of technological innovations in the area of healthcare and disease prevention, which could be activated surprisingly and quickly.

Statue of Hygeia

In the local Greenwich chart, the Cancer midheaven would indicate that the maximum priority for people is finding refuge and safe places in order to thrive. Yet Lilith in Cancer reflects the fear of abandonment and neglect of families. This sound logical given the massive migration movements due to hunger, wars, terrorism and crime, repeated catastrophic natural events, and all kind of issues due to irresponsible stewardship of the material realm. Their consequences have recently gone out of control in such a way that societal and governmental organizations can't contain nor solve them.

If that is not enough, Ceres also opposes Jupiter. The overwhelming need of people in dire straits for protection, shelter, care, or 'nurturing' becomes an impossible task. "The inability to say 'no' to other people's needs can deplete one's own nurturing reserves."2

Ceres, Goddess of the Harvest

The Sun square Chiron indicates difficulties, restrictions and obstacles on our efforts to fulfill the essence of our life mission. "The expression of our lives is dependent upon attending -seriously, consciously, and intentionally- to our wounds and issues"3 This year, people will be provoked and urged to attend to their core wounds, in order to be able to express the fullness of their essence. However, many will rationalize that they have no such inadequacies of being, even though their shortcomings and vulnerabilities will be so evident that some will vent them out openly, justifying themselves with pride. Hearing people say 'what can I do, I'm this way?' is a common excuse for not doing anything to improve, even though they recognize that something is wrong with them. This year then presents the opportunities to question those assumptions because, unfortunately, the creativity necessary to face the times challenges is blocked by stubbornly keeping stuck in one's detrimental ways.

Mercury square Eris reflects expressions of discontent, There are news, communications and plans from the top down powers about people protesting to defend their own rights. Eris public rebellion represents the disenfranchised of society who strive to demand recognition and acceptance. Diverse ethnic groups, LGBTQ, disabled individuals, refugies, asylum seekers, victims of slavery, and all sort of displaced and rejected people claim to receive equal protection under the human rights. Governmental institutions, corporations and authorities in power are forced to issue statements (Mercury rx) related to their claims.

Venus conjunct Pluto intensifies desires, however, being in the sign of Capricorn people can expect to feel overwhelmed by fear of not having enough money, food or resources. On the one hand, people will obsessively increase their focus on financial matters. Due to high inflation and other economic problems, the majority of the population is tightening their belts. On the other, this will probably impact banks, mortgages, loans, debts, insurance, taxes, corporate money, most especially superfluous spending habits and the purchase of luxuries. Bankruptcies could break the financial market, and banks may need to completely overhaul their financial system (Capricorn). The USA most probably trigger this domino effect due to their Pluto return last hit December 28, 2022, when Venus is already in orb conjunct transiting Pluto.

Birth of Venus

Of course, in order to survive, businesses and corporations (represented by Mercury Rx) are reviewing their commercial practice and will not hesitate targeting the rich with high scale products at unaffordable prices for the common folk. Performing arts, music events, art festivals, art galleries and all other artistic expressions may now be reserved just for those with big pockets.

People in relationships will be overburden due to money issues. Not only that, but couple's feelings intensify and may generate possessiveness, jealousy and even a high level of abuse that could translate in 'brutal love' and increase the rate of femicides. This influence will affect the ways people relate romantically and socially. Relationships will experience deep transformations for good or no so good, resulting in breakups or breakthroughs.

Regarding esthetics, creativity, beauty and creative expression, for example, women may take the fashion of the 'femme fatale', wearing intense darker makeup colors and black clothing. Plastic surgery may come back in fashion as well.

Peace is more difficult to attain, and countries in conflict will have strong power struggles before and if they come to an accord and bury their arms.

In conclusion, 2023 is a year of challenges and the urge to change the ways people deal with the material reality. Definitely, it's not a year for the faint of heart. Courage and endurance will be our good advisors.

Creating your cozy shelter

Cancer New Moon
June 9, 2021

Sextile Uranus

As the projective (Sun) and receptive (Moon) side of your personality unite in this New Moon, your comfort zone gets a new emotional start. You are inspired to create with new vibes that are positive and intense at the same time. You may have some nice surprise or an unexpected encounter that makes you review your comfort zone. Uranus brings fresh air and you are open to the excitement of the new [weird?] possibilities. You reconsider eccentricity. What or who has been unusual for you before may sound acceptable now. That allows you to welcome new opportunities for reviewing what you consider comfortable. A group of friends can play an important role in making you aware of your emotional and social needs. Also, something you find on the Internet, or using a communication device can connect you with your emotional body, with a surprise. In any case, whatever the unforeseen event or person is, it doesn’t shake you out of balance, because you are now open to the loud and extravagant side of things. In fact, the sextile gives you enough room to make the decision to accept it or not.

Trine Neptune

With the Watery support of Neptune, the reinvention of your comfort zone comes from spiritual or mystic inspiration, probably with the desire to help someone else or pamper yourself. If your emotional nest includes a significant other, a dear family member or friend, especially women, then, you will be in tune with what exactly they want. You may find emotional comfort by getting involved in charitable activities, or volunteer service in a hospital or for people in need. This New Moon will certainly make you more compassionate and gain insights into your subconscious mind. You may also find comfort in any artistic self-expression, like dance, painting, photography and home décor. You may gladly surprise yourself with what you can write on a blank page without even having a prior idea or thinking much. Try some poetry, or a love letter to your mother.

Square Chiron

However, Chiron in Aries is the spoilsport. Your vulnerability, your negative feelings, your sense of not being ‘good enough’ are triggered and can block you from creating the cozy shell you want now. Chiron’s nagging will urge you to a serious identity introspection. It’s a very intimate influence that may bring to mind questions like ‘do I deserve to be cared for?’ ‘why am I always left out?’ or ‘who cares for me?’ The tense 90º angle of this New Moon to Chiron certainly requires a deeper examination of your emotional life, a reconsideration of who you think you are, a bit more of self-love, self-acceptance, and self-approval.

 Opposite Pluto

Now, Pluto opposition wants to purify both the feminine (Moon) and the masculine (Sun) energetic elements of your personality. His intense power can manifest as another person, an intimate relationship or even a powerful public servant, who confronts you if you are not in full integrity in a given situation. Someone may demand you to make a fundamental change, a profound transformation of what you count as a comfort zone. If your personal relationships have not been working well for whatever reason, Pluto’s opposition to the New Moon may be the 'make or break' moment. Either of you are trying to reform the other and there is resistance and rebellion. Both parties want to have their emotional needs satisfied, feel at ease and safe; but if they are not willing to concede and peace is not possible, the domestic life will be disrupted and the partnership will suffer radical changes, even the complete rupture. Moving is also a possibility.

Uranus in Taurus T-Square Mars-Venus in Leo and Saturn in Aquarius

Venus Mars conjunction in Leo wants to play, take risks, satisfy their desires, get recognized for their creative expression. In doing so, they may get loud, colorful, overexcited, flamboyant, even aggressive, considering the unpredictable poke of Uranus. Yet, on the other side, Saturn says, ‘not so fast’. You are reminded of social responsibilities, decorum, rules and duties. The tension is extreme, explosive, and spurs you into action.

Finding Shelter

Chiron in February 2020 - Struggle for Worthiness

Chiron and Lilith
The Struggle to Feel Worthy

Lady Lilith (1866-68) by Dante Gabriel Rossetti (1828-1882) Public commons image
Chiron in Aries

As Aries is the first Sign of the Zodiac, it signifies the birth, the rising of the Soul into the physical form. Aries is the first impulse of life, your body, and in particular, the head, which is the first appearing in the birth canal. Chiron in Aries, makes us feel that our self-image we show to the world, the persona, the identity, first impressions, the attitude, appearance, self-awareness, and your response (reflection) to the environment are impaired or inadequate.

There is a deep anguish from feeling that one's existence, actions and desires are not acceptable.  Consequently, one may feel unworthy, not able to fit in, may lack assertiveness or be too much assertive to compensate, may fear self-expression, may have an unconscious tendency to hurt oneself (especially the head). Deeply inside, one may feel that has no right to exist, and try to be invisible, or on the other hand spend all the energy trying to prove that one exists, with a "please, look at me" attitude. It can also manifest as unconscious mirroring of the 'other', projecting the wound on them. From that mindset of insecurity, one can fear assertion, may act too soon or too late, do things on one's own instead of asking when help is needed.

Black Moon Lilith in Aries

The Black Moon Lilith is the energetic geometrical point that has an orbit of 8 years and 10 months.  Lilith is associated with the Myth of Inanna of the Ancient Sumeria, or Persephone of the Greeks. Lilith in Mythology has also been associated with the first wife of Adam (Alphabet of Ben Sirach). She represents the angered feminine who rebelled against the attempt of male dominance. Buried in our psyche, is the rebellion against the physical incarnation (Saturn) that requires division, opposition and separation from the Source of Everything, and imposes submission of the creative power (mother, Cancer) to the designs of the organizing power in the tangible world (Capricorn).

Inanna Sumerian Goddess
Her 'darkness' is associated with the beginning of life in the enclosed space of the 'womb'.  It is in that origin that are buried our deepest traumas, where is hidden the unconscious part of our psyche, what Carl Jung called 'the shadow'. The dormant shadow or the psyche is the source and drive of our reactions, attractions, desires, choices, decisions, especially those that feed our self-sabotage, and self-defeating behaviour.  It is only when we have a Lilith transit, when we plunge in that dark space of our nature, and bring out the fear or the anger profoundly buried, that we are able to redeem ourselves with the light. Only in darkness, do we understand the light.

The entire month, Black Moon Lilith is within just one degree of Chiron, only to conjoin him in March. The Black Moon Lilith in Aries only aggravates the Chironic 'wound' of our existence. Together this month, they will trigger a psychological rebellion against our vulnerable condition. In different ways, you may fear or be angry because you feel unworthy, not enough. You may question your own value, merit, self-esteem. You may have a tendency to compare yourself, or your achievements with the success of others. Events or circumstances will make you come face-to-face with your own identity, assess your level of acceptance of yourself, no matter what other people tell you about it.

Fill yourself with the radiance of your own being. Any comparison will always make you feel more or less than others. But Black Moon Lilith and Chiron this month are inviting us to find our own light at the very core of our Self. You are unique, your life is of your own design, and good enough to fulfill your life purpose. Be brave, be you!

February 3 - Moon sextile Chiron

The Moon soft aspects to Chiron are opportunities to sooth the wound. Please read more in depth significations about the Moon phases in relation to Chiron. February 11th, the Moon opposes, on the 16th she trines, and on the 25th Moon conjoins Chiron.

February 6 - Sun waning semi-square Chiron

The Sun gives you the last push to help you integrate the expression of your core essence in spite of the perceived vulnerability, inadequacies, and impaired self-esteem. In the Myth of Chiron, the Sun God, Apollo, was the one who adopted him, redeemed him from his castaway condition. Apollo instilled confidence and optimism in Chiron by teaching him all the sciences of his time, that Chiron later used for healing.

Therefore, even the hard contacts with the Sun, are always a healing balm. As the Sun is about to close the cycle that started last year around the end of March, today you may have to go over the last bump in the learning process. An event, another person, a man, boss, or a father figure may challenge you again to integrate your woundedness. Remember Rumi, "I said: Pain and sorrow.
He said: Stay with it. The wound is the place where the Light enters you.” It is through the wound that we heal.

February 10 - Venus conjunct Chiron

This conjunction closes the cycle that Venus started in April 2019.  Do you remember a significant social, love or financial event or situation? Now, you're probably giving it closure, finally understanding, accepting and assimilating the implications, the 'lesson'. From now on, a new situation with the same theme starts for another round of learning. If you didn't get it then, this is a new opportunity, if you did get it, then this can be a deepening of the process. Venus and Chiron will present a new opportunity to take the same theme to a higher level of personal development.

As Jeremy Neals, Astrologer, says "True love cannot be made without Chiron".

Love in human life is as necessary as food and water. Babies cannot survive without it. Adults only survive without it. Whether we have a partner or family to love, Love is an essential part of human life. If alone, you have to learn how to provide it for yourself. If in relationships, we have to learn have to give it and receive it.

The wound that Chiron represents in your Natal Chart shows you the place where we most need TLC. For example, if it falls in the first house, your challenge is to learn how to love yourself, imperfections, shortcomings and all. If it falls in the seventh, your challenge is to learn how to choose an appropriate partner, or relate to another human being in a balanced way. When we relate to others, all areas of life are involved, especially the ones that hurt. Soon enough, do you realize that they need to be included as well.

The vulnerable areas -Chiron transiting Aries, are the hardest to manage in a relationship. Because we don't know how to heal, at first, we project the wound onto the partner, and they do the same onto us. We try to heal or fix each other. Venus visiting your natal Chiron -or the transiting Chiron in this case, is a balsamic relief. It helps us sooth the rawness of the wound, care for it, treat it with compassion, understanding, patience. Even though, Venus is not the unconditional love Neptune can give us, we can get a glimpse of what true love may be.

Venus can show us, though, that we all hurt for a valid reason, consciously or unconsciously. We all are broken one way or another, and paradoxically, still whole. When we remember this with compassion, we can then establish a harmonious and balanced love exchange, where both parties receive what they need. However, the whole process only starts within ourselves, when we understand that we are lovable in spite of our faults, when we look in the mirror and say to ourselves 'I love you' sincerely, with all our own heart. Then, we are ready to love the 'other'.

February 15 - Uranus semisextile Chiron

To better understand the relationship between Uranus and Chiron, please visit my blog article "Chiron in Aries and his Maverick friend, or foe?"

February 21 - Mars in Capricorn square Chiron in Aries

As soon as Mars enters Capricorn on February 16, where he is exalted, our vulnerability will be exacerbated. In the collective, events and situations will menace our very existence. Either, natural catastrophes, the cloud of sickness, or the threat of war can put people in danger. Because the actions of human beings have disturbed the natural ecological balance of our planet, the fury of the elements can fall upon all forms of life. Since the Mars opposition to Chiron on October 8th, 2019, fires have ravaged huge extensions of land. Mars is associated with fire, fevers, illness, pests, violence and war. Chiron is associated with the wound of our very existence. Learn more about Mars square Chiron.

In our personal lives, situations of anger or aggression, become the trigger we need in order to understand the true dimension of our human fragility, vulnerability. We will be challenged to assume the vulnerability, to identify that we are not omnipotent, that not being in control is part of our nature.  If we are to survive, we may need to respect our personal fragility, and recognize that is up to us to protect it. In which way the actions of others or your own actions sabotage your own identity, existence, and ultimately your own life? The motto of this aspect is 'my life matters'. The question Chiron ask to Mars is 'can I do it?'.

Conclusion

In February, Chiron takes us to the depths of the underworld in order to rise up, to awake to the light of truth, to realize the dimension of the primordial wound of being. Those who will be more affected by Chiron this month are the individuals who have natal Chiron in Aries or in the First Zodiac house, or Lilith in Aries or in the First House, or natal planets around the first degrees of Aries, or the other Cardinal Signs (Cancer, Libra, Capricorn).
Ultimately, we are to learn who we are and how to fulfill the purpose of our own existence.

Wishing you the best, much love! Sat Nam.
