Saturn in Aquarius

Saturn is happy in the humanitarian and social Sign of Aquarius because it’s the traditional ruler. As the Lord of his House, we can expect him to put some order in it. Saturn brings social organization, new structures and regulations to society to ensure security and the protection of all.

This will be a time of economic recession or depression, when economic progress and development will require much patience, hard work, and social maturity. At the same time, Saturn always requires integrity, practical common sense, and a higher level of social responsibility. The only way to breakthrough the challenges will be an overhaul at all levels of society. We can expect new educational, economic, healthcare, production and commercial systems with the use of cutting edge technology. Saturn in Aquarius favors manual and mechanical work, scientific and technological innovation, and values intellectual advancement.

What can we expect?

Just one week after Saturn enters Aquarius, Mars joins him. Actions are subject to the regulations, constrictions, and delays imposed by authorities.

From chaos to factual information

The Internet and social activity at large will submit to severe restrictions, rules, and probably surveillance in many places of the globe. Otherwise, people will assume the consequences. We would be held accountable for our social activity and expression, be it in person or virtually.

Change of values, change of desires

The crisis of covid19 has dramatically opened people's eyes about what they really value. As Saturn applies to the square to Uranus and makes it exact in 2021, our values in general will continue changing, and so will our desires and decisions.

Freedom instead of dissolution

We are now required to discipline ourselves, to assume personal responsibility, to be our own agents of authority. We are finding what authentic rebellion means, because we will have a real cause to rebel. Social changes will require our maturity, and understanding that 'my right starts where the right of other people begins' (J. P. Varela). We finally understand that we cannot do whatever we want. Not only what I do affect others, but like a boomerang, later turns also against me.

From pyramidal to horizontal 

We have already realized that authorities, even the elected ones, do not represent our interests in the least. Then, people are ready to recover their own authority, take responsibility and work for the issues they have been asking for such a long time. Individual initiative and innovation will replace our bad habit of waiting for the 'father figure' of the day to do it for us.

From international to local

The square to Uranus in Taurus is helping us change our economic values as well. Now, we understand the unsustainability of the global economic system built through the Era of Industrialization and Globalization, while Jupiter and Saturn conjoined in Earth Signs. As the supplies don't come from China as usual, we understand how vulnerable the market has been. It'd be necessary to build small self sufficient  communities with local production and transportation of merchandise if we are to survive.

Cooperation instead of competition

Aquarius is the Sign of alliances to defend a cause, and cooperatives for a specific social or material benefit. Saturn favors the formation of grassroot like minded unconventional associations of mutual support. In times of scarcity, neighbors gather resources together to share, practice informal commerce, swap goods, pitch in, and exchange services to overcome poverty, achieve goals, and make dreams come true.

Saturn Jupiter Conjunction

700 years ago, the Pluto Saturn conjunction happened in December 1284, 26º♑️. Just a year later, in December 1285, Jupiter and Saturn met in 7º♒️ Aquarius, just as it will happen this year. It was the start of the Renaissance in the Western Civilization. Direct result of the Crusades, the Renaissance was born out of the new knowledge brought back from their travels to the Middle East. Islamic countries had kept many classical Greek and Roman texts that had been lost in Europe, and they were reintroduced through returning crusaders. (Wikipedia)

Then, with Saturn and Jupiter conjoining in Air Signs, the evolutionary transition took a couple of centuries, it is said that the Black Plague of mid 1300s set the stage for the Renaissance, by creating a complete chaos and vacuum of authority.

Intellectual and scientific studies soared, Universities were created, the fine arts were perfected, all of which had been relegated during the Middle/Dark Ages. There was new concern with healthy living, cleaning, and lightening up of the spirits.

In a sense, since 1802 when Saturn Jupiter started meeting in Earth signs, people had gone back to the dark ages of materialism. With industrial revolution, humanity developed heavy machinery, to exploit material resources. Until today, progress was synonym of material wealth.

Now, that Jupiter Saturn meet in Air signs for the next 200 years, progress will be synonym of scientific, cultural, and intellectual wealth. The fine arts are coming back, inspirational music, poetry, performing arts are on the rise. Scientific and intellectual development will serve Humanity as a whole, promoting a higher stage of evolution and civilization.

Within a year of the present Saturn Pluto conjunction, we will have the Jupiter Saturn conjunction in Aquarius. Another new beginning, a new Renaissance of the Mind, and its intellectual capacities. At our level of evolution, the transition will probably happen faster than then, but still this Air period will last about 200 years.

2021 Saturn Squares to Uranus

Saturn and Uranus are enemies from time immemorial. The Greek Myth tells us that Saturn rebelled against his father, Uranus, and castrated him. In Astrology, Saturn represents tradition and the past, Uranus innovation and the future. With three squares in store for 2021, we can expect clashes between the status quo and the urgency for change. Since both Aquarius and Taurus are stubborn Signs, both planets will be slow to give in, if ever. People will have the tendency to be opinionated and oppose changes, thinking that we still have the possibility to go back to the old ways.

There will be a clash between revolution and stability. Old ideologies may be banned or relegated, but new scientific discoveries or inventions may be rejected or opposed. People may resist taking individual responsibility, embracing changes, in a state of anxiety and fear of an unknown though promising future. Those used to unjustified privileges will have to make sacrifices. Some people still attached to the past may be pessimistic, and have a negative approach because they find it hard to adapt to the changes.

We will have to remember that with this new Saturn and Pluto cycle, we are still working on the demolition and reconstruction of our civilization. We made this chaos, because we are to evolve, develop and grow as a Human Species. Embrace the New Dawn of Humanity! Let's make it together!

Spring Equinox 2020 - The Year Ahead

The Fresh Air of a New Era is around the corner, but before that, we will need to breathe heavily.
The Spring/Fall equinox March 19, when the Sun enters Aries, begins the tropical year. This chart hints at what the rest of the year will look like. New life comes out of what we thought was dead. Once again we experience the dawn of a new cycle of life. What the Chart of this event shows will color the whole year, until next Spring/Fall.

The most important energy in this chart is the applying conjunction of the Sun to Chiron, the Wounded Healer and their square to the Nodal Axis. The Nodes of the Moon represent the past (South in Capricorn) and the future (North in Cancer). The Sun spotlights on our human fragility and vulnerability. We became aware of our wounded condition. Humanity as a whole, regrets now what we have done in the past, our mistakes will be raw in front of our eyes, to understand that we are at a crossroad, that we need to change our ways if we want to find safety, comfort, have a family and thrive.

The established power structures, governmental organization, and economic system not only are unsustainable, but have irreversibly damaged our own capacity to survive and thrive. If we embrace our Healing capacities, we can leave those systems and structures, and turn to the future to create a New Order that aims at the safety and survival of our human family. We need a system that ensures a sustainable economy for humanity to thrive.

Uranus sextile the North Node of the Moon indicates that as we change our values and desires, we contribute to the creation of a better system that will ensure the protection of our family. Since the Moon (ruler of the North Node) is in Aquarius, we do it by considering the impact we have in the groups we belong to, in the collective, in the society at large.

Mars conjunct Jupiter, gives a boost of vitality, impulse, initiative, even aggressive action. They are reactivating the Saturn Pluto conjunction of January 12. It means that the demolition and reconstruction they indicated then is in full development with increase energy. Jupiter shows the horizon where we are going, Mars executes his design. UPDATE 4-22-2020: I forgot to mention that Mars Jupiter conjunction, not only is at the exact same degree of the Saturn Pluto conjunction in January, but they are square Eris, who will not sit quietly, but has already thrown the Golden Apple of the discord on the table of the 'party'. She represents those who have been left out, disregarded, at a disadvantage in the share of the wealth, and they are rebelling and will continue until something gives.  

We are enthusiastic at the perspective of starting anew. And we should, when the night is at its darkest, the dawn is closer. Since the conjunction sextile the Sun Neptune midpoint, we have the opportunity to guide our actions by intuition, spiritual insight. This is also a good energy for creative people, musicians, artists, actor, photographers, movie makers to increase the workload and expand their scope of activity. As co-creators with the Universe, we should imagine what the New World should look like. Every creation, every piece of art always start with the imagination, why not the World we want to live in?

With Saturn at the last degree of Capricorn, he's wrapping up his work related to the structures of organized government. However, he's not done yet, because he'll come back in July for a short visit to make sure that we are doing what he prescribed. For now, he's getting ready to bring discipline and organization to society at large. He already started with restrictions, and social separation.  

Mars is applying to the conjunction with Pluto on March 22 adding energy to cut out everything that is corrupt, toxic, decayed in the structures of government and the economy. At the same time, Pluto is extreme power, and Mars is action, together they take powerful actions. It won’t be surprising to see the military restraining people, like it was seen in China. Extreme measures will be taken by force at all levels. In the USA chart, this conjunction opposes the USA natal Mercury, so we can expect powerful opposition, and forceful actions against the media, the internet, and to receive aggressive communications from the powers that be.

Dear readers, the virus is not the only challenge we are going through now. I guess you figured it out by now. Make sure you take care of yourself, your loved ones. Especially, keep fear away and far. Only LOVE can get us through this. Be grateful for the life you enjoy right now, one day at a time. And as Gandhi said, "be the change you want to see in the world."

The most important message Chiron in Aries brings in March is a lesson about human vulnerability in this third dimension of physicality (Saturn), and human lack of control over life. As incarnated beings in the flesh, we took the cross of limitation. We are not spirits freely roaming around anywhere, we are attached to matter and endure its rules (Saturn). Saturn glyph ♄, is the soul (curved leg) bending over under the weight of the 'cross'. It's not surprising that the physical life brings pain, illness, decay, and death. Saturn was anciently associated with the Grim Reaper as well. However, suffering, since it is our response to the pain, is a choice. 

Chiron square December Solar Eclipse

The first week of March, Chiron in Aries squares the December 25-26, 2019 Solar Eclipse at 4º 6' Capricorn. 

As I wrote in February, 4º Capricorn is also the degree of the previous Saturn Pluto conjunction January 4, 1518. Among other important events, that year Hernan Cortes headed to Mexico, where he so easily conquered a whole civilization of more than 30 million people, in just a few months! How? Two important allies: making alliance with Aztecs' enemies, and unknowingly bringing with them smallpox. To ensure victory, he burned the expedition ships! There was no return, it was a “win or die” determination.

Just that event opened the portal to the conquest of a whole New Continent, redistributing the powers of the time, and reconfiguring the geopolitical map of the whole World. Of course, the evolution was not done overnight, but in a really Capricornian (Saturnian) way, with ambition, persistence, patience (overtime), and much cruel bloodshed.

At the cosmological level, Nicolau Copernicus, opened Humanity's vision into the cosmos, telling us that the Earth was not the center of the Universe, but the Sun. Then, the process of accepting our cosmic abandonment (Chiron wound) started. Are we not the most important piece in the puzzle? Are we are just a speck in there, almost invisible?

The December Solar Eclipse opened a portal over that long gone past to see through the long way we've walked until our present time. 500 years later, January 12, 2020, Saturn Pluto historical conjunction in Capricorn, not only has threaten a global war, but brought a global illness that threatens our very human existence, but has also the potential to redistribute power. Covid19 impacts the elderly population at a higher percentage, and it's sparing the children and youth who are not much affected by it. The Sign of Capricorn, Saturn and Pluto are associated with the time (Chronos) old age, and the karmic past. 

As a New Era dawns, Humanity has to leave behind (Capricorn South Node of the Moon) its old systems, socio-political structures, traditional institutions and obsolete conditionings and conventions. Because Pluto is associated with transmutation and regeneration, its energy may very well play a role in the reincarnation of very old and experienced souls that are being born since 2008 when this planet entered Capricorn.  Having lived through the Ages, they bring with them the karmic accumulation of wisdom issued of their learned lessons. Look closer at these young children, they are teaching the adults!

Squaring the Solar Eclipse point, Chiron is in the company of Black Moon Lilith in Aries, the shadow yin (feminine) energy inside of us.

In her book, The Astrology of the Black Moon, A Guide to Healing the Shadow Side, Laura Walker states that this conjunction
"Often poses a lifetime of painful experiences. This aspect almost demands that we sacrifice ourselves for others, leading us to walk through life with a deep wound that restricts our personal growth." Death thoughts invade our psyche, awakening "the desire for release from worldly problems." 

She continues "we feel as if we have been wounded to the core. These are some of the most difficult transits. Deep sadness and depression are reported. [...] transits involving the Black Moon intensify feelings of pain that lead to not wanting to continue with life. Self-imposed sacrifices are made or activities are eliminated from outside forces. These transits, however, are designed to heal a wound (often from early childhood) and heal the primary fear. Circumstances come into place to push us to come to terms with our shadow side." 

Furthermore, she associates Lilith in Aries with the shadow of success. "The Black Moon in Aries manifests in the intense quest to be valued and feel worthy." 

As a collective, all the wounds we have inflicted upon ourselves, our human darkest crimes against our spiritual identity are in our face now. The challenge is to heal and Chiron in Aries is the key.

At a personal level, the events develop quickly with a cardinal square, which implies radical changes that will affect your future, your emotional security, comfort, thriving, and survival. My February's Chiron article addresses extensively the personal themes of Lilith and Chiron present conjunction.

Mars in Capricorn, ruler of Chiron in Aries

Mars in Capricorn is the most important actor during March, at least.  Mars will most probably instigate and stir up with impulse if not violence the forces that were awaken with the events that took place between the last two eclipses (threat of war, new illness, refugee crisis, etc). Mars is traditionally considered a 'malefic' influence bringing fevers, pests, heat, anger, and violence. Mars' proximity to Jupiter (traditional ruler of Pisces) increases his influence. Mars association with Chiron, as dispositor, represents well the present wounding effect of the Covid19.

Next New Moon March 23 meets Chiron in Aries and squares the Nodes of the Moon, making Humanity's wound sore. Chiron pokes emotions with his feelings of vulnerability and inadequacy, so we'll need to pamper ourselves a bit to feel better. The Moon in Aries adds a dose of assertiveness to your mood, you get things going, have the energy to get things done and determination to make decisions. 

Chiron square the Cancer Capricorn Nodal Axis

Humanity, as a species, is at a crossroads. During this period, we understand how past actions (karma) weighs on our fragility. We are learning from the past mistakes and facing the challenge of our survival understanding the vulnerability of our inherent identity. The psychic shadows are now in the open for us to reckon with, and we look for refuge and protection for our human condition.

Chiron square the Cancer Capricorn Nodal Axis calls out for examination of and reflection on the past actions, social conventions, traditions, socio political structures, conditionings, established systems of operation, institutional organizations (Capricorn). The review shows that they have thwarted the purpose of our life. Looking for power, prestige, domination, material possessions, and social status (Capricorn) has made us cold, alienated and cruel, deeply wounding our emotional nature (Cancer), that requires affection, nurturance, comfort, protection, safety, and the tender life support that only family and human contact can provide. 

The experiences that we perceive as negative, and sometimes catastrophic, are wake up calls and shakers that attempt to move us into balance and harmony with the Source of Life.

Your Healing, My Healing
The Full Moon happens at 19º 37’ Virgo, with the Sun conjunct Neptune in Pisces.  Full Moons are always culminations by maximum opposition that allow for awareness of the issues related to the Signs involved. The Virgo Pisces axis of the zodiac is associated with health and healing, with energetic and physical imbalance, spirituality and practicality, service, charity, reclusion in hospitals and prisons, retreat and quarantine.

The Virgo Moon’s spotlights health, healing, cleaning, disinfection, organization, cleansing, detox, health related issues and activities.

The Sun with Neptune in Pisces sheds light or focuses on the confusion, the lack of boundaries, vulnerable immune system, and invisible ‘enemies’, i.e. germs.

Virgo’s symbol is a maiden separating the wheat from the chaff, which implies discrimination at the time of separating what’s good from what’s not. Virgo criticizes because it uses discernment to analyze, classify, organize. Virgo gives information in a logical thread of ideas, one ensuing from the other by reasonable association. 

Thank goodness that Mercury turns direct today in Aquarius! Thoughts and communications become clearer, we can focus on the details, analyse, and organize data in order to come up with sound conclusions. Mercury, ruler of this Full Moon, now in Aquarius is sharp for scientific research, and access to higher knowledge to bring about innovation and cutting edge solutions. Between now and March 15th, take advantage of it and do your accounting, taxes, studies, and any administrative work, before Mercury re-enters Pisces until April 10th. 

Pisces on the contrary, merges everything together, doesn’t have separations or distinctions. That's why, my health is your health, because we are all interconnected and interdependent. Pisces perceives by intuition and imagination, gives the whole insight in one piece, in an image or sequence of images like in a movie. In Pisces, it’s easy to be confused, to hide secrets, to conceal or diffuse information, or to have misinformation. However, the Sun may give some clarity now on the health issues, so we may finally have enough ‘light’ to understand them better.

However, as it is the case for all oppositions, it may exacerbate the polarization of opinions, which in turn will motivate people to dig out the truth more sensibly.

If you have a personal planet around the 20º of the mutable Signs (Gemini, Virgo, Sagittarius or Pisces), its related issues will be clearer. At a personal level, the Sun conjunct Neptune gives a sense of defeat, low energy level, suspension in time, disillusion, imaginary thinking, self-deception. Neptune debilitates the aura, the immune system and makes you vulnerable to secret enemies, like energetic attachment, or other people’s energy.

Let's do something about it
Sun sextiles Jupiter and Mars in Capricorn, which opens the possibility to act on increased clairvoyance, or intuition if you keep grounded in your spiritual practice. A bout of inspiration, compassionate concern for others, charity efforts, and professional knowledge could be of great service to the society as a whole if well coordinated and efficiently put to action. 

However the same energy also magnifies idealization, imagination, even mental derangement.

You need to be careful though, and stay away from inflated delusions, especially acting up on them (Mars conjunct Jupiter). Just a few days ago a man called Mike Hughes died in California in a frustrated rocket launch because he’d said “his goal was to eventually fly to the edge of outer space to determine for himself whether the world is round.”

Moon trine Jupiter and Mars opens the possibility that the evolution of the spread of Covid-19 in affected and not affected countries, increases the efforts to control the illness. However, the situation escalates the effect on international trade and the friction in government relationships. There may be a need to modify and improve healthcare measures and responses already taken, in order to match the clearer understanding and knowledge uncovered under the influence of the Full Moon light.

The Moon sesquisquare (135º angle) and the Sun semi square (45º angle) the Venus Uranus conjunction. Even though, these are considered ‘minor’ aspects, their relevance is reflected in the consequences of this health crisis. The Covid-19 has a higher death toll than other forms of flu, impacts the flow of share resources, creating economic instability and commercial stress because of supply shortage, which in turn affect the global finances. The crisis impacts human affections because brings sudden unexpected social and relational changes. Families and loved ones may be separated, by isolation or death. Individuals have already been barred from displacement because of border closings or entire quarantine communities. 

Don't give in to fear, but live mindfully of self and others, be proactive.

Conclusion

We are forced to come out of the dream land of Pisces, learn pertinent scientific information, and take active responsibility for our own life, without waiting for a 'patriarchal' figure to take care of us. More than ever, Human Beings realize that 'The other person is you' (Yogi Bhajan). We cannot continue believing that we can survive in isolation. We have created a global economic network without realizing that we would have to take responsibility for all implications. With this crisis, we are made accountable for our actions and inaction, and even for our intentions. May we all reflect on them, and decide to change our habits, so the Human Race can survive and thrive.

New Moon in Pisces - February 23, 2020

This New Moon in Pisces taints this moon cycle with confusion and deception unless you're well anchored in a wise and mindful spiritual practice. Its energy will take all of us deeply in contact with the collective unconscious. This is a new beginning that promises to present some challenges to the reasonable folk. Aspects on several fronts lend their dose of diffusive energy that gives us a sense of merging with the collective unconsciousness, or with the spiritual realm.

Mercury is retrograde in Pisces, a Sign that robs him of his wit and cleverness. Here, he's friend of creative writers, novelists, play and movie writers, poets, and inspirational speakers. But if you are calculating your taxes, better wait until mid March when he turns direct. Electronic devices will have the hiccups, communications and information media will be confusing, inaccurate, inexact, deceptive, and you'll be prone to misunderstandings in your conversations. You may have delays or detours in your commute, and issues with your siblings or neighbors. Be especially careful not to have any liquids near your laptop or phone! This is like having the messenger (Mercury) talking backwards (Retrograde) underwater in the ocean (Pisces) !

Before GPS technology, lighthouses where the reliable points of reference when navigating the Ocean, that helped ships arrive safely to land. Similarly, during this Lunar Cycle, you will need reliable points of reference, because your mind and your discernment ability are baffled.  Not only is Mercury retrograde, but in Pisces, the Sign of intuition, telepathy, spirituality, unconditional love, and yes, also obnubilation. Your thinking is very far from logical and reasonable. However, you may know something without understanding how you know it, but you are certain of it. This month we have the opportunity to tap into our human common sense, the higher wisdom, also called sixth sense by the Ancient philosophers.

To make this ethereal intangible energy even stronger, since February 20th Jupiter is sextile Neptune adding a higher degree of spirituality. Even though Jupiter and Neptune are a beautiful influence that can make us aware of the higher levels of reality, show us a global perspective of things, inspire our creativity, it also increases the tendency to escape the physical reality through the imagination and hope, to dwell in addictions or become more fanatically religious. Musicians, and all kinds of artists are happy to tap into this energy though, and they may produce fascinating pieces of art. Psychic and healers rejoice as well, because their abilities are enhanced. However, a word of caution: exercise discernment.

Why? Because three days later, today, February 23th, Jupiter squares Venus in Aries, expanding the desire for and self-indulgence in religious, philosophical, or spiritual social activities. You may fall in love with a very spiritual person. This square increases the tendency to 'people-pleasing' behavior, financial exuberance for self-satisfaction (i.e. overspending to gain popularity). You may feel impelled to get what you want, now! and with grandeur!  Beware of disproportionate ambition that after 'climbing the mountain', can throw you back down with a big crash.

The Sun and Moon are at the midpoint between Uranus and Mars.  Here, we need to stop and talk some more about Mars, because he's the most active planet in the chart, making several aspects at the same time.  Mars conjuncts the South Node of the Moon, sextile the Moon, trine Uranus, square Chiron and biseptile Venus. You can expect a lot of decisive, assertive -if not aggressive- action out in the world during this new moon cycle. From Capricorn you will have the tendency to do traditional things the old way, taking your time, with great ambition. Yet, with Uranus influence you add also an eccentric approach to take sudden, strange or unconventional actions, thinking about the future, especially ensuring your freedom and independence. You will find different ways to initiate projects, follow procedures or carry through with your work.

However, those impulsive eccentric actions may be based on your imagined scenarios, fantasy, illusions... or plain delusion (Pisces Sun Moon at midpoint)! Unless, you are highly spiritually developed like a Buddhist devotee who always chooses to act for the benefit of all affected.

AND Mars activates again the December 26 Solar Eclipse at 4º Capricorn, giving a boost of initiative, and action to the issue, situation or event that took place around that time. In fact, Mars activates the entire December-January Moon Cycle with a blast. During that cycle, the historical Saturn Pluto conjunction took place as well. It was the time when the entire world was threatened by a spark of War, and the coronavirus also started to spread. What will Mars, the Lord of War, bring this time?

The maverick spirit may bruise your sense of self worth (Chiron in Aries) as well, realizing that choosing differently, you may not fit with the crowd anymore and find yourself excluded somehow.  You need to make sure that you want to embrace also the consequences of your unusual or bizarre behaviour or actions. Mars is Chiron's dispositor (ruler of Aries), and they are not on the same page, in fact, they are bumping into each other. Your actions will poke your vulnerability, your wounded sense of identity.

Plus, having Venus in Aries, your love relationships and your finances receive a subtle challenge from its waxing biseptile to Mars. Of course, it depends which house they are transiting for you. But, your desires and your impulses are karmically linked, deeply affecting your emotional foundation, probably your family and home life.

Just two days ago, February 21, Chiron square the Nodal Axis with Mars conjunct South Node means that whatever wounding or healing taking place can either bring you back to the old behaviour patterns or throw you forward to a new way of being, more healthful, nourishing and comfortable. Your choice!
